A soft cervix doesn’t indicate that
anything is wrong if there is no
enlargement of the cervical canal to
accompany it.
There is a disorder called "cervical
failure" wherein the cervix grows and
opens too early during a pregnancy and can
cause miscarriage. Early cervical growth
is due to prostaglandins, corticosteroids,
estrogens..., but the precise mechanism of
the cervical failure is unknown. Genetic
predisposition is also possible. You'll
need an ultrasound examination in order to
identify and diagnose the cause of
cervical failure.
