Question On Possible Pregnancy Posted: 12-12-07 06:12am
Hey everyone, I feel that I am
unnecessarily worrying about my situation
but I felt like I would seek a second
opinion. I am 17 and my girlfriend is 18;
while she is legally an adult, I feel that
a pregnancy at this time would qualify as
a teen pregnancy. My girlfriend and I made
the decision to have sex after dating for
several months. On that special day we had
sex three times, and each time I used a
condom. I put them on correctly. How
noticeable is a condom breaking? Would I
feel it immediately? Anyways, I don't
think any of those condoms broke. Also, my
GF is on birth control. She has never
missed a day, but she sometimes forgets to
take it at the same time everyday. Would
that affect the probability of her getting
pregnant drastically? We had sex three
months ago, and because of her BC she only
has a period every 3 months. Two weeks ago
I penetrated her without a condom.
Although we had been drinking, I came to
my senses and pulled out of her within two
minutes. I def. did not experience an
orgasm. Would any pre-cum be enough to get
her pregnant, despite her BC? I very
rarely have pre-cum anyway, and I had
already orgasmed several times that day
(further reducing the likelihood). The
only reason I am worried is that her
period is due this week and it is a few
days late. I honestly do NOT feel that she
is pregnant. It is finals week after all,
and it is common knowledge that high
periods of stress can cause a late period
(among other things). However, my
girlfriend tends to worry about
EVERYTHING, and just the idea of her being
pregnant stresses me out. She is firmly
against abortion (religious concerns) --
although I would prefer abortion, I know
that the decision is legally and morally
hers to make. I would feel responsible if
she was pregnant. It would ruin our lives
(short term at least). She would have to
drop out of school. If she did have a
baby, it would be taken care of. She
assured me her parents would be
supportive, and I know that mine would be
as well. I am a freshman at Ga Tech, and I
am a pre-med major. Although I am 17, I am
extremely mature and would NEVER abandon
the mother of my child. It takes two to
tango, and 50% of the responsibility is
mine. She would not want to marry me just
because of a pregnancy, but I would feel
obligated to do so. I suppose I would
continue to date her until she felt ready
to marry. Anyways, I am sorry for the
extremely long winded post. I have been
studying for finals and I couldn't sleep
because I was so stressed out. If she is
somehow pregnant I guess that is what God
felt was best! I also apologize for
telling you my whole life story lol! Just
wanted to reassure everyone that I would
not be the typical father (from what I
have seen) and just ditch the mother! If
anyone has read this far, thank you.
I appreciate everyone's help in this
matter. Guess I will go study some
more...?

It's 6:45 in the morning, so I'm not going
to attempt to read all of that... I am
going to say that she's probably NOT
pregnant... but I'd take a test anyways. I
got pregnant while on the pill and using a
condom. Granted, the pill was ineffective
because of medication I was on at the
time, but at least a negative test would
ease both of your minds, right?

Birth control + condoms = highly unlikely
she is pregnant.
Actually, even just birth control
pills make it unlikely she is pregnant.
If you are pre-med, you know that birth
control pills prevent the release of an
egg (no ovulation). If there is no egg,
there is NO WAY possible a person can
become pregnant.
Additionally, while some people do become
pregnant with pre-ejaculate, and the pull
out method is never advised as birth
control, you are talking major, major odds
AGAINST pregnancy with pre-ejaculate.
Especially considering the pill usage.
That said, have her take a pregnancy test
3 weeks after your encounter. Use first
morning urine for best results. And trust
the answer. If it shows negative, take
that as she is NOT pregnant. Then stock up
on more condoms. Spermicide is an
additional measure that will further
protect you both.
Good luck with your exams!

His girlfriend has been taking her pills
at varying times each day. I found this
answer several places:
"If you are on a progestin-only pill, it
is VERY important you take it at the same
time every day. Even a few hours
difference can cause pregnancy."
So I guess it matters which type she is
taking.

It does depend on what kind she is taking.
But it does not change the advise. He does
not need to worry about something to the
point of not sleeping when, at this point,
there is obviously not a single thing he
can do about any of it.
The only thing she can do is take a
pregnancy test a few weeks after this
'pre-ejaculate' encounter. The chances of
pregnancy are LOW. Regardless.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I do
know that BC prevents ovulation, but I was
more concerned with the fact that she had
taken it at different times. I have told
my GF that the probability of her being
pregnant is infinitesimally small, but
that doesn't stop her from worrying until
she gets her period, or the test is
negative. You are right in saying that all
I can do now is wait, and try to not lose
sleep over it! However, I think we will
decide to stop having sex. I subscribe to
the belief that if you can't deal with the
consequences (like an unwanted pregnancy),
then you shouldn't be engaging in sexual
activity. Although I feel that condoms and
birth control are effective means of
preventing pregnancy, that one tiny chance
is more than enough to make me consider my
responsibilities. She is waiting till
Friday to take a test since she is scared
to find out the answer before she is done
with finals. Anyways, once again, thank
you for your responses and your words of
encouragement concerning my exams! I wish
everyone the best, and enjoy your holiday!

You said he couldn't "pop"
you. How do you know that? It's not always
painful and some women don't even bleed
when they lose their virginity. Before you
start experimenting with something that is
this important, you need to get better
educated. You need to get yourself to your
doctor, get a physical and first and for
most get on some birth control. I'm sure
you do not want un unwanted pregnancy nor
an unwanted disease. Please see you MD,
and stop messing around until you know
what your
doing.
