sharp pain and blood at the opening of the rectum during BM
Posted: 12-13-07 05:01am

I am 22 and I went to the bathroom to use number 2 and I had a lot of trouble pushing it out and when the escrement was coming out I felt a sharp pain at the opening of the rectum. It hurt quite a bit. After I finished I saw that there was blood in the toilet water, on the paper, and on the outer part of the escrement. The escrement was quite large and hard and maybe it could have torn me? My rectum hurt for about an hour after I had the BM. The only liquid I drink is water, but I have noticed that I had not been drinking very much water lately. Ever since this Sunday everytime I had a BM I had quite a bit of pain when the escrement was coming out and there was also blood. Today I made a concious effort to drink more water and I went to the bathroom a few hours ago and it still hurt, but there was no more blood anywhere. Also the escrement was much more softer and of normal size then before. This happened to me in October as well, but it went away after 3 weeks. What could it be?

According to your description, rectal bleeding could be due to the persistence of hemorrhoids at the rectal opening. Hard stools mechanically damage hemorrhoids and can causes rectal bleeding. You can keep good hygiene of the anal region and to eat more food that contains cellulose fibers (vegetables and fruits). Cellulose fibers will make the stools softer.
