Q: cesarean Scar Opened After 20 Years!!!

Hello,

My mother is a fairly healthy woman, even exercises. She had three cesarean births over 20 years ago. Now out of no where her cesarean scar is opening. She has a 1/2 hole in her.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard of any situation similar to this and might know some possible causes. I was thinking maybe she over exerted herself during working out, but she hasn't been working out for the past couple of months because of school. We are 99.99% Sure she didn't physically tear the scar open by over exerting herself.

I was just wondering even anyone had any Ideas, Even the doctor was stumped. Now she is going to a specialist but he can't get her in until Jan 2nd. So she has to walk around with a bandage on.

Well if anyone can help, Thank you

Is this possible? Doesn't the skin fuse together/new skin form?

Mother
I don't know what's causing it but it's possible, because its happening. She is going to a surgen on Jan 2nd and apparently they are going to put her back together. They are going to also look inside her before she gets fixed up to make sure there is nothing causing it. They have already done an ultra sound and found nothing unusual.

I was just wondering if anyone knew something that could cause this to happen. Like maybe an infection, or cancer? Like something that would basically attack scar tissue? I have no idea. Waiting until the second is way to long for me, but they say this doctor is the best.

Thanks for your time

c-section scar opened
I had a c-section 28 1/2 years ago. Mine split open in October 2008. I had gone to the Dr. in July '08 for blood work - cholesterol, etc. I went back in October for results and bp check up. The dr. informed me that in the blood work she had taken, my blood count was off the charts. She said it is most likely an infection. I told her that my scar had just recently split open, bled a little, and pussed a little. She gave me antibiotics.Sais she hoped that cleared it up and if not, she would send me to a surgeon to open me up , and see what is wrong. I toook them and called to schedule an appt. They can't see me til mid January. It is a clinic, with a sliding fee, as I have no insurance. It has been opening up, bleeding a little, then 're-healing' off & on. Please let me know what happens with your Mom. Thank you & good luck .

Yes, a scar can re-open! That happened to me! I had a staph infection while living in Japan 36 years ago!!! a military doctor (yuck) opened the infected area (mine was on the top of my spine) I forgot about the scar until a month ago, it started itching , then burning and hurting so bad! I looked and found the old scar had a split in it! I am trying the over the counter scar repair? If that doesn't work, then I have to go to the doctor! But yes, this is possible! Especially if it was a bad job was done in the beginning?
