preteens lacking energy

Do you think that preteens who lack energy or sleep in a lot need the rest b/c of a growth phase or is this more related to lifestyle and diet?

I think it's both. Growing and hormonal changes in addition to the stresses of work of everyday life can wear them out, and it definitely doesn't help if the teen isn't getting much sleep and eating foods which are not healthy, especially sugar and caffeine which give a false energy and send them back to a worse state then they were before they had them.

I agree - both lifestyle and diet. There's a growing trend for obesity, too, which can settle during adolescence. But even active, healthy teens are expected to do a lot. Remember Algebra homework? Plus history and writing assignments, and the emotional ups and downs of teen life???

OH my gosh, the MATH!! I don't think I will ever know how I made it through Calculus with a passing grade lol. If Math doesn't make you tired, I don't know what will!

I got mono in 7th grade ... and still think it was related to all of the stress. When I was 12!!!

I also think television and computer games are also alot to blame, and parents not being energetic enough or in a mood after work to take kids to sports and exercise activities after school or on weekends, nd i also think its becoming an increasing problem not decreasing but i still think it is a parents responsibility for this, I also think marketers should be shot in 3 places for advertising things like mcdonalds lollies and junk food in children programming times.

Just my point of view Smile

P.S i loved maths Razz Still do.

RE: TV. Have you noticed that the screen now changes every 3 seconds, or so. Nothing is stable any longer ... not even the camera angle. Shaky cameras also appear to be popular. In my opinion, TVs DO have something to do with fatigue and programming a teen's mind. Perhaps parents need to limit consumption of the marketing diet!

I remember my teen days as being very demanding. I was stressed out! But I couldn't sleep in ... it was only in the summers that my body started getting used to waking up after 8! I wonder if boys or girls require more sleep during pre-teen years?
