Hi, PPPLLLLEEEEAAASSSEEE tell me what is good for heartburn during pregnancy? I have eaten almost a whole bottle of TUMS(because they say thats all pregnant women can take) and it is just as the bottle says, "temporary relief". I go to the Dr. tomorrow for my 22 wk appt but I just want to know if anyone has any other suggestions that are safe.

Hi! I sorry to say that the heartburn will really go away when you give birth and release all that abdominal pressure. What you can do now is to eat 4 to 5 smaller meals in a day than having 3 regular meals. Eat healthy Smile I hope you don't drink coffee. Then wait a an hour or two after eating before lying down.

Taking OTC Prilosec is ok for pregnancy. I've been taking it all of third trimester, but check with your doctor that it's ok to take it in the second. You can take it every day. The only reason why it states that it is a 14 day treatment is because if it hasn't fixed the heartburn after 14 days, you have a more serious condition, like heart disease (you should also check with your doc on that too.)

This will help for acid reflux (GERD) too.

Thank you so much!! I will definately check with my doctor tomorrow when I go for my check up because sometimes it is so unbearable.

Strawberi --I dont drink coffee. I used to though and that was before I found out I was pregnant.

But thanks to you both for responding.

***update***
After coming from my check up today the doctor said the same as you said STRAWBERI and that was to eat small frequent meals and she also told me to try a the liquid mylanta and see if that works for me.

Baby is doing great! His heartbeat was in the 150's and on my next visit I have to look forward to the glucose drink. Smile

Try Zantac over the counter. My dr had to put me on prescription Nexium. I'm going Thursday and I'm begging him to do it again. I can eat a piece of lettuce and get heartburn.

My doctor gave me a perscription of ranitidine for my acid reflux/heartburn. I took it one night and got an intense headache that lasted throughout the night and into the next morning. Since then I've been kind of afraid to take it, but I took one last night & the middle of today and so far nothing unusual has come of it. I also take Tums when I need quick relief, but I find that rolaids "fizz" and cool my throat better and more quickly. So far throughout my pregnancy Ive gone through 2 bottles of rolaids, 1 bottle of tums and I have no idea how many little packs of the rolaids (I buy them whenever I forgot to bring the giant bottle with me lol)
