Have you experienced something traumatic that has preceded this sleeping problem?
What makes you scary?
Do you have biased fears and worries?

Anything that affects your life will also affect your sleep.
We usually manage to fill our days with work and distractions, but nights can be a haven for unresolved problems.
Stress and anxiety almost always result in an inability to relax and 'switch off' and get a good sleep.
Lack of sleep will also cause anxiety, irritability and depression....and the circle is formed.
So, the way to help yourself is to learn how to identify the reasons for the anxiety and do some changes in your work or home life.
Share your concerns and ask for help from the people you love (avoid sleeping pills; when dreading a future event, it is natural to have a few sleepless nights)

Best wishes!

Me too Sad I think I am sleep-phobic. I fear going to sleep as I think of it as a bit like death. I hate the idea of being unaware of what's happening (I know, I have serious issues about fear of being out of control.) I will distract myself with reading, tv, internet - anything rather than go to sleep! And I still have to get up for work in the morning, and drag myself through another day after only 2-3 hours sleep. This happens night after night and I feel now that it is just part of my life. I don't want sleeping pills as of course, all they do is knock you out, thereby increasing my anxieties about being unaware and out of control! Obviously, the real problem is my underlying anxiety, and I would imagine that to be the case with most insomniacs. stretch

Have you experienced nighttime panic attacks during sleeping?
Being frightened of not being conscious of the world around during sleep, fearing that might not wake up if something bad happens, is a as you said fear of sleeping.
It's known as SOMNIPHOBIA and it's a symptom of an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety fuels this fear.

I'm 23, and this sleeping problem started a few days ago; may be some 15 days. I sit in front of computer a lot, so I avoided working late hours since a week or so... and for now my sleep is back I'm feeling good now.

Is that ok if I have to work late night again??

Working irregular hours or late hours can throw off your body's circadian rhythms. During the day, your body releases chemicals that make you more alert, and during night, your body releases melatonin, a natural substance that tells your body to go to sleep.
If you sleep poorly and not enough, you may worry about not being able to function well during the day. At night, you'll try to fall asleep harder but unfortunately this determined effort can make you more alert, set off a new round of worried thoughts, and cause more sleep loss.
Returning to normal work and sleep patterns, will make all the consequences of poor quality sleep to disappear quickly.
