Q: I'm Being Induced Today
asked by: cln1812 on December 14th, 2007
Active User, very eHealthy
I'm going in today for my induction at noon. I had a Foley catheter inserted into my cervix yesterday & the end blown up with saline in the hopes that it might cause me to dilate (not fun, that was quite painful). Hopefully, it worked since it fell out overnight (the OB said that might happen and if it did it's a good sign that it worked and got me dilated up to 3 cm, I'm keeping my fingers crossed). I've been having contractions all night and this morning, about 6-7 minutes apart. Fortunately, I did manage some sleep (about 6 hours, broken, probably only because I had such a stressful day yesterday), so not as bad as going into this with absolutely no sleep, which I was afraid might happen. I have to fast this morning, unfortunately, but the doc did say I could have an Ensure shake or something, so I had a Slimfast shake for breakfast, and I guess that's all the food I get until Tessa is born, other than popsicles at the hospital. And I'm hungry! If the contractions get closer together or more painful, I will be going to the hospital sooner.

good luck! it sounds promising that the catheter fell out.

i can't believe they're not letting you eat! you'd think they'd let you since you'll need your strength for labor.

i can't wait for your birth story and pics!!

Good luck to you!!! I hope everything goes well.

I didn't get to eat (other than popsicles and jello) the entire time I was in labor, 28.5 hours without real food!!! As soon as my little girl popped out, my aunt went and got me some food!

Good luck, sweetie!!

They didn't let me eat either Sad I thought I was going to die! My labor was 28 hours long, and it was a few hours before that I'd eaten anything, so I was DYING. I fell in love with a nurse that brought me a cherry popsicle.

Hmm, wow, brain fart. They turned my iv off after 12 hours or so and let me eat an hour after that. I didn't go 30 hours without food. Laughing

they practically forced food on me telling me i'd need my strength for later. then i ended up with a c-section and they didn't let me eat for 2 days after.

Good Luck!

They didn't let my sister eat, just ice chips. I find it ironic that you need SO much energy for labor, but no you can't eat anything because they are afraid you'll throw up. Sometimes doctors don't make sense.
