Accuracy of the Ultrasound Posted: 12-14-07 13:21pm
My girl left the doctor's office with an
ultrasound picture that said the baby was
12wks. 2 days before she left the doctor
office said there may have been a
miscalculation and that she was approx. 8
wks and 5 days and that they would call
her in two days. Is this common practice.
Also, can an ultrasound be that off.

So she doesn't know when her last period
was? That is a whole month difference. An
ultrasound is far more accurate than that.

Wow that is a lot of discrepancy. By
mid-pregnancy, an ultrasound will have
only a "give or take a week" error, and
usually it's only a few days.
The only thing I can think that would make
it that much of a difference (besides a
REALLY gross lab error) is if the baby
isn't growing the way it should if you
know what your due date is.
