Ingiunal hernia surgery - now pain near groin - normal?
Posted: 12-14-07 19:07pm

I received surgery for an inguinal hernia 2 weeks ago. The lump where it was is back, or still there, not sure, but I am told this could be a healing ridge so I am not too worried about that.

However, just starting 2 days ago, I started getting pain in my low abs, near my groin, and also in my right testicle(the surgery was on my right side too). Is this normal? Something to be worried about? Any ideas? Thanks!

Had surgery for my two inguinal hernias on Dec 7; everything seemed to be going great until yesterday when I found a hard lump in the same area as the surgery. No pain, just added discomfort. I just hope it's not the return of the hernia.

To everyone who is or has had hernia repair, please read the other posts.
There are A LOT of problems with the mesh the doctors are using. I can not stress enough the importance of this.
People are suffering with many issues after having a "simple" hernia repair.
I have been in a great deal pain for a long time now. I have nerve damage as a result of this mess. I had a lot pain right after surgery and have not gotten better since.
Please find out what type of mesh was used. There is a recall on some meshes, people are suffering with other meshes that have not been recalled.
If you feel it is due to the mesh you will need to get all your medical records and file a complaint with FDA on their website or call them.
I have spoken to a few doctors and many other people about this. I know there are a lot of people who are far more informed about this than I am, I am sharing my experience.
Most doctors don't believe the mesh can cause these problems trust me they do cause problems.Sad
If you have any questions please ask and I'll try my best to answer them.
Best wishes to you both.

chronic groin pain

Hi. I had open hernia repair. It was a right inguinal hernia repair using mesh, Im not sure of the exact type though. I had surgery scheduled for 8-24 of o7 and ended up in the emergency room on 8-13 from severe pain and had the surgery and ended up staying in the hospital for 4 days due to the pain and was uanble to eat(dr's orders for 2 days) wasnt sure why that was and no one would explain why. Its now 8 months later and still have severe pain mostly in the groin area but some around the scar. I've been to 2 urologist and been to physical therapy occupational therapy and none of this helped only irritated the issue. I was referred to a physical medicine doctor who has been great but, wasnt sure and wasnt familiar with groin issues only nerve problems....wasnt sure what to think. not sure what to do or expect and if I will ever feel better???? I've been on steroids and nerve med's along with pain meds...any suggestions? any similar stories??

Hi there

I replied to your other post. I can relate to your problems. I can write a book on everything I've been going through since I had my hernia operations. It's a living nightmare.
It sounds like you have nerve entrapment which many, many people are suffering with due to the meshes. There are so many problems with these meshes, they are crumbling, folding up, breaking apart, cutting into the body such as any scar tissue that has formed making matters worse,etc..
As for suggestions get all your records including the operative report from when you were in for the surgery. You can get all this from the hospital.
Did you wake up from surgery in pain (more pain than the average surgery)? I know everyone has pain when they wake up from surgery but I'm talking really bad pain.
Again you can pm anytime.
Check out the sticky on the top of the forum, file your report with FDA after you get your records, this will help in filing the report because they ask for the mesh information.

I woke up from surgeyr in horrible pain. This was the reason for my extended stay in the hospital...They put a morphine pump and then that didnt work and they put me on ...Duladid and that helped somewhat...most frustrating thing is, when I talk to the Kaiser doctors they seem to be unaware of these complications and you get a gentle nod but, say it should be hurting...

Please get your reports from the hospital. I know what you are going through. It sounds like a nerve got pinched, entrapped, stapled or sutured and now time has gone by and you may also be having problems with the mesh. That is "normal" response many are getting from the manufacturers.
Don't give up fighting. Many people are fighting hard to get answers.

What surgery are they talking about? Is it to remove the mesh? If so you need to find out what they are going to use in place of the mesh.
It sounds like you are going through the same process as many of us (painkillers, therapy, and some doctors don't know what to do with us)
Again please keep in touch and pm me anytime.
