I don't have insurance at the moment and I'm not working at a reg job, I just do day-care and earn a few bucks here and there. Anyways I was wondering if 3,000 dollars for a 2 day non high risk labor and delivery at a hospital was a good price? This would be 6,500 for a standard reg. vaginal delivery but my hospital cuts a deal if you pay 3,000 in full before your due date, you do that then 3,000 is all you pay. Unless you end up having complications then the price goes up regaurdless. I paid the money in full and I'm not at high risk or anything so I think this plan will work for me very well. Oh yeah this dosnt include reg dr. visits or for my epi shot but those bills I don't care about because I can always pay the monthly min on those, I just wanted to save thousands, cuz ya never know how much your hospital bill might total to. Just curious if anyone thinks this is a good deal or has done something similar to this.

im not sure, according to my insurance it was 2,565 for a vaginal birth, with the epi, but just that, my son was on IV antibiotics for 2 days, he wasnt even circumsized, i had to pay near 1,000 for him since he wasnt covered under my insurance. so im not sure, every insurance is different or no insurance, thats the only bill i ever got with my son cuz they screwed dup so i didnt have tp pay that, i dont remember seeing my bill from my dr but i dont think that it was even 3,000. i guess it just depends.

Have you looked into getting on Medicaid? or Healthwave for the baby? That would help you out tremendously.

As for the cost, I can't remember how much mine was because insurance covered it. I DO remember tho that an Epi cost over $600!! I thought it was outrageous!

Not sure. My c-section and being in the hospital from Monday to Thursday cost me $6000 and it cost Ava $2000. Thank God for insurance.

is that what it cost you or your insurance?

my total, which i think included all doctor appointments and ultrasounds, was over $20,000!

The $8000 all together was just from the section, epi, etc. and hospital stay for the both of us.
Ultrasound and dr. visits were on other bills. I never added that up.
From the $8000 I have to pay $1200. I pay 50 a month.

why is it so expensive? I hope my Medicare card pays for at least most of it.

$500 for an epi? what in the world could cost that much? the medicine or the needle? And they tell you to not stress out, how can you not?!? *sigh* and you wonder why people want to do home births, but that still costs money cause of the CNM or doula... nothings cheap anymore...

You should look into medicaid. Also, I'm thinking, since you don't work and this would be a public hospital, that they'd have programs other than this. Such as programs where you could get more of your bill than that written off due to you low income status.

3000? I think when i had Chyanne it was close to 10,000. And i'm sure it was the same this time around too. Maybe even more. That was 6 years ago.

Thanks ladies, I'll check into medicaid. I just moved from California to Nevada a few months ago so I suppose I should go talk to some ppl from washoe county for medicaid information. I can't wait for my baby to be born. Very Happy
