Easily Misinterpreted ...
Posted: 07-01-04 01:04am

Invest " interest " to themselves Confused Confused Confused Actually ... These were the ones who as children were not allowed to express their feelings !!! So ... That " set the stage " for schizophrenic type behavior or withdrawing into their own litle world . So... Then ... When you say these ... People ... With schizophrenia invest " interest " in themselves you might also explain that 1 out of every 10 schizophrenics ... Completes the suicide act ... Due to feelings of no longer being able to " fit in " to our wonderful capatilist society, say, by working, ect Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes think again !!! Laura

I Ll Try Again ...

Because ... I think my message to you ... May have also been " easily misinterpreted " . Sorry . I think it 's a beautiful endeavor what you are trying to do ( educate ) . What I am ... Struggling ... To educate/show others ... Is ... Very simply ... These people with schizophrenia are oft' times misread as we all know, they respond " inappropriately " ie may ask someone to " turn off the light " or " close the door " using an angry tone of voice . So, we who are not well educated in psych tend to be narcissistic in our interpretation of them ie we see them as " selfish " or " unappreciative " . See the irony ? Laura

Calm Down

Laura, calm down, these are the symptoms of a disease- if you want to chage the symptoms then you are going to have to change the disorder- don't get your panties in a bunch because you don't like the definition of a disorder...

Laura: it's really a shame to oversimplify things. Schizophrenia is quite complicated. Perhaps you should do a little research? I'm not trying to be rude, btw.

Perhaps the negative emotions communicated by a schizophrenic have merit. Just as any "normal" personwill develop hurt and anger when treated in a way wich does not respect a persons emotions. When "normal" people stop telling the "schizophrenic" their feelings are the illness maybe then you will see a person not a disorder

long viewer, I think laura was just confused by the first sentance in the orginal post...As was i. It stated "the most common form of psychosis characterized by the withdrawl of interest from others and world" ??? This is not what characterizes psychosis. Many people may withdraw interest from others and the world, as a result of other things such as depression, personality disorders, anxiety, etc.
I think it should have said, psychosis is characterized by loss of touch with reality, generally meaning hallucinations and/or delusions.
