Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (need Support)
Posted: 12-18-07 14:32pm

Thursday I'm going in for surgery. I'm having a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to stay overnight in the hospital but I do. And I thought there wouldn't be much pain and I'd be fine in a couple days...apparently I'm being too optimistic? Has anyone had this? What was your experience please?

Tina, this all depends on your body. A hysterectomy is a major surgery regardless of whether it is laparoscopic or not. There is a lot of information on the internet to be found. I haven't personally been through one, but I have done a lot of research on them online.

Good luck! Be gentle on yourself and don't push yourself too hard.

Almost 3 weeks post surgery

Tina - in 3 days it will be 3 weeks since I had my hysto for endometrial cancer. I was in hospital only overnight even though I was expecting 2-3 days. I was even able to shower myself the next morning which was wonderful. Although I was sore for about a week the last two weeks have been relatively pain free (nothing more than what used to be period type pain). I have developed a bladder infection but antibiotics are taking care of this. I also developed some mild incontinence due to my low back being out of alignment, but chiro has fixed that. I started driving my car about 5 days ago and am getting better and better everyday. You just really need to remember that it takes you longer to do everything and you have to be incredibly careful with any type of bending. Am even starting gentle walks along the beach next week which will be wonderful. Remember a positive attitude is half the battle, getting some gentle sun is also really good as it is the only way in which to get Vit D.
Just think - no more periods, no more pap smears - good luck.
