chest pain after bite plate Posted: 12-18-07 18:05pm
Hi all,
Got my bite plate (splint...whatever you
call it) this morning. I mentioned in my
last post that this dentist started out by
grinding my teeth down and when he saw how
much my jaw moved decided that wasn't the
way to go. Well I had been getting heart
cramps (like a charlie horse in the chest)
and at the time I had bronchitis, so I
figured it was from that..till today!
Since I have been wearing this plate all
day, now I really have a huge charlie
horse (not the type where you can breathe
deep and it goes away either). I just
wrote to say I am shocked! I know that is
what it is from, because it happened the
last time, but I didn't put the two
together. I am amazed at how all these
muscles are connected! Hopefully it won't
lat too long. Last time it was 3 days, and
I was sure my bronchitis had turned to
pneumonia or something...lol. Wow.

I have had so many experiences with TMJ.
Are you seeing a Chiropractor in
additionm, if not you really should.. As
you wear the bite plate, it is going to
change your form (spine-positioning) You
need to see a Chiropractor for adjustments
as you move forward with treatment.. I
have symptoms such as dry mouth, metallic
taste in mouth, severe popping in left
jaw, funny senstions in the palate of my
mouth, twitching/burning eyes, blurred
vision, numbness in my lips, the feeling
of pins and needles in my lips, tingling
feelings in my mouth, sore throat,
shortness of breath, ringing in my right
ear, headaches, muscle spasms in my back,
neck, shoulders, knees, etc:
When I first went throught this about 13
years ago, i thought I was dying, I went
to so many doctors and they all blamed
sinuses. Until I went to a dentist who
treated TMJ and he referred me to a
chiropractor in addition, the symptoms
would not leave.. After a few months of
treatment, I started getting relief and
eventually felt normal again (this did
include wearing a splint ever dya which
did take me some time to get use too)!
After a year or so of treatment I was
fine, here 13 years later, I am starting
to experience all these symptoms again,
started about a month and half ago.. I
have started seeing a chiropractor
regularly again and have a ppt. with my
old dentist which treated me then in 2
weeks... Please listen, if you are
experiencing any or all of these symptoms
and doctors can not diagnose you, please,
see a good TMJ dentist and a
chiropractor.. Do not be alarmed if they
are not aware of all the symptoms... My
chiropractor was surprised and he is a
very good one..
Best of luck..

I have to agree Lynda---a chiropractor
would help this. It sounds like shifting
your bite like he did probably made some
sort of imbalance in your neck. go see a
good chiro.

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply! I have most of the
symptoms you have, but don't have the numb
lips. Do you really think the metallic
taste is from this? I have it too, and was
kind of under the assumption it was from
an overload of toxins?
I do see a chiropractor. I have been
seeing him for the last 12 years or so. He
was adjusting my jaw before I saw the tmj
dentist. I haven't seen him recently (this
is all getting kind of pricey!) The
charlie horse thing in the chest went away
after a day or so, but happens each time
the dentist adjusts this plate. It does
seem to be helping the pain, but if I take
it out, within about 15min it all comes
back:( I really hate wearing this plate.
It drives me insane that I can't touch my
front teeth together! I guess I must grind
them more than I thought.
Why are you having problems again? My
dentist says that once the teeth stop
moving, that he wants to build up the back
teeth to keep the final position, and that
I shouldn't have any problems after that?
But he said it could take 8 months or so
of wearing the plate.

yes it is pricy ive spent over 100k so i
know what you mean. Yeah you shouldnt have
any problems after what your doctor is
planning on doing.
I have gotten metalic taste in the past as
well--im not sure where this comes from
Ive also had the taste of blood with no
blood. I think it may be possibly some
material from either the splints or
fillings or something like that.
