the Birth

It was the absolute most amazing thing i have ever been a part of! My cousin had to be induced and not much was happeining early on. They started Pitocin and she was having mild contractions on the ball, so I suggested that we go for a little walk. Her water broke then and that's when her contractions really got going. She did so well! With each contraction I did a lot of counter pressure on her back. Nearing transition she began to get panicked and opted for a little bit of IV pain medication. She rested well between each of her contractions through transition, and then it was time to push! She had a bit of work to do to get the baby to descend all the way, and she did it even thought she thought she couldn't! I just kept telling her whenever she said "I can't" that She WAS doing it! Finally the baby began to crown and I was so impressed at her nurse and her doctor's care for her girly bits through all of this. They were so careful not to let her tear. I was just amazed. She finally delivered an 8 pound 10 ounce little girl named Grace. It was so amazing and wonderful. Even more amazing than my own births where I wasn't really an active participant. Mom and baby were doing well when i visited yesterday and Dad is great too. Anyway, what a trip! I want to do this again!

I'm glad everything went well. I wish I had you here for mine. I wasn't able to afford to get a doula but I still plan on no epi. Hopefully, my husband will be a big help in that.

I ALWAYS wanted to personally witness a birth!!! I was really close to seeing my best friend deliver her son, but there were like 5 people in there...so I opted to leave.

I had an amazing nurse. WHen she would come in the room(which wasn't often), she'd whisper nothing but supportive words to get me through.

Baron didn't talk to me the whole time. He was so nervous. I didn't want anyone to distract me. I was so focused, I was OUT -OF- IT!!! lol...it was wild!!

I actually can't wait to deliver this baby!!!

If I had to choose a different occupation, it would prob be a midwife/doula!!!!

In all that I have experienced, I really had no idea. My stomach hurt from sympathy pushing and my voice was horse from all the cheering and crazy stuff I was yelling!

Laura, you need only ask! I consider it the ultimate privelege to be asked to participate in something so miraculous.

I would love to do what you did! My friend has asked me to be her birthing partner but i had to turn her down because she's due in 4 weeks and they don't let other babies on the ward unless they belong to either the mother or father so i can't just leave Mika without milk. Plus i've got a cold and Mika's just getting over her Bronchiolitis so the last thing i'd want is to pass my germs onto newborns
