Pregnancy Test Accuracy With Birth Control? Hmmm
Posted: 04-19-04 11:54am

Does a pregnancy test work if you are on birth control pills? Picture this. I had sex, ugh I know lame, unprotected, shoot me! I know I know i'm stupid! But, three days after I had sex I started birth control. Can I take a test now that i'm on birth control? Will it still work the same? Does anybody know? Hmmm. I've tried to reserch it, but I can't find the answer. Please help me!!!!!!

Hi atari,

yes you can still use pregnancy tests anytime after starting birth control pills. The pills will not effect the result, although you should be aware that home pregnancy tests are not usually used until about a month after the suspected conception took place. The hgc levels (or pregnancy hormone) need at least 4 weeks to build up before a home test will actually detect it. You can request a blood test from your doctor to determine whether or not you are actually pregnant. These tests can be taken approx. 7 - 12 days after intercourse, and you can expect an accurate result.

Good luck

Not true. Pregnancy tests will work usually 15-20 days after conception!
