Anxiety Or Something Else?
Posted: 12-22-07 19:19pm

Hi, im new on this board, im 26 year old male smoker who once played competitive hockey! Ive started it seems having Anxiety related problems. I was a moderate drinker about 4 years passed and have now reduced to having some drinks once or twice every 3-4 months. About 8 months ago i had quite smoking for a month when i got my wisdom teeth pulled out. During that time i had my first mini panic attack/anxiety attack as i beleave my body was going through withdrawl. Maybe 4 months after that i had a huge panic/anxiety attack while driving to friends house it lasted about 20 mins i was sure i was having a heart attack, i went to the hospital and did EKG test and my heart was beating perfectly and my blood oxygen was perfect as well. I also had a blood test when i saw a general practioner, and my blood test came back perfect.

Now, i have from time to time a feeling of lightheadedness or floating/vertigo and feel tired. I dont sleep as well as i usually did, over all i just dont feel good! I always thinking that there is something wrong with me or im scared that im going to die! I dont also get palpitations and feel all anxious about going, shopping, going to see friends, work, or doing things that i like doing before. I still try to stay active and i play hockey every friday night, now im not sure if its my anxiety of there is something wrong with me but i some times feel lightheaded or start breath and paying attention to my heart rate and breathing when i stop playing or take a shift change on the bench. But, when i start playing again i feel fine!
Also when im sitting on the bench i feel like my far sightedness gets worse?

I also have alot of tensiness in my back and neck sometimes dull pain in little areas of my chest! I beleave this symptoms of muscle pain come from my two injured shoulders that i have dislocated, they have caused my posture to change alot. I dislocated my left shoulder 7 times with no surgery repairs and my right shoulder just once with no surgery repairs.

Im wondering if with your experiences and knowledge of anxiety if you can help me put this symptoms at ease?

Thank You,
JDMness

First and foremost, Welcome to you new home. Our group of members, supporters and moderators are here to help you in anyway we possibly can. You will find nothng but compansion and thoughfullness on this board. We are glad you find us!

Sounds like most if not all of you symtoms may be stress and anxiety related. They both can do alot to the chemistry of you body funtions. I would try some daily meditation with easy listening music or sound scapes music. You would be surprised, if you really get into it, you can actually leave you body and just relax in a very special safe place. I would practice this for at least 15 min a day when it is convenient for you. Best time is before work or school. Lot your room door, put up a "Do Not Disturb, In Meditation" sign on you door if you have too. That is what I do on my front door so no one will even knock. If you have a set of headphones, it does work best that way. Sit on a pillow, don't lay down or you might fall asleep and miss work or school. Seriously, that does happen.
You will learn in you very own personal way how to cope with this beast. I did and all one this board know how sick I am. So, if I can do it and still have a positive attitude. so can you!

Warm Heartfel Wishes,

~Carrie~
