Candy And the Holidays

I am a stick-in-the-mud. I stashed my kids candy after Halloween and only allowed her to have a couple of pieces each day. I am doing the same thing at Christmas, too. I just don't think its good for kids to have all that sugar. In addition to the "Hyperactivity myth" I think it's really hard for your body to keep processing such peaks and valleys in glucose. It puts a lot of strain on your pancreas and liver, so i don't do a lot of holiday candy and sweets (I often take their candy to parties and I used to put it in the candy basket at work). I do let them have home baked stuff, but I still limit this to one or two treats per day at the holidays. My friend told me the other day that I was denying my kids one of the fundamental pleasures of christmas. She told me it was mean for me to do this to my kids. I don't ever hear them complaining, but what do you guys think? Should it just be a free for all at the holidays, or should you stretch it out over time? Or would it be even better to toss it all in the trash? A penny for your thoughts.

I'll be doing what my mom did - little kids (like up to maybe 12) get a limit of two.... older than that can eat what they want.
