Migraines Connected to Genetics? Posted: 12-26-07 18:28pm
Hi. I'm a 19 year old female. Off and on
as far back as I can remember I have had
severe migraines. I've talked to doctors
about it and they don't seem to have any
answers for me. My migraines usually start
at my right temple and spread to the whole
of my head. Other times they start with
little electric shocks along the top of my
head. Medicines don't seem to have any
effect. Mostly, I lay an ice pack on my
temple and take a nap. When I wake up, I
always feel a lot better. The severity of
the migraines range from simply unbearable
to so painful I throw up.
My father has mentioned that these types
of migraines run in his family and that
many of his family members have died from
cerebral complications. I don't know if
this has any effect on my situation, but I
am curious.
Also, if anybody has some idea of how to
cope better with these migraines (or
possibly prevent them altogether) I'd be
very grateful.

Do you usually feel numbness and blurring
of vision 30 to 60 minutes before getting
a headache?
Are you experiencing aura with motor
weakness (weakness of half the body) and
speech problems?
