Yesterday I had an internal exam to see
how far I have dialated and to see how
much of my cervix had thinned. Today I've
noticed a little bit of brownish colored
discharge off and on today. Is this normal
or should I call my Dr.? I'm cramping
quite a bit today as well but I have been
off and on for the last few weeks. I'm
almost 40 weeks now, due date is dec.
31st. Just wondering if this is from my
exam or maybe a sign of mucus plug?

Could be both. Your body produces extra
lubrication when there is a check, just as
you make saliva in your mouth when you put
something in your mouth. They could have
bumped something and caused this to happen
or started the decomposition and discharge
of the mucous plug.
The mucous plug discharge should be a
little thicker than the regular
discharge....and is usually yellowish to
white, but if you are losing it gradually,
the discharge will vary in consistency. If
you start to experience actual bleeding,
then it would be time to call your
doctor.
I do not believe that you have anything to
worry about here.
