Vbac Anyone? Posted: 12-28-07 11:33am
I had a c-section with my daughter
Harmony, when i do get pregnant my fiance
wants a vaginal delivery... not that there
is much of a choice on the matter, but has
anyone every had a vbac before? and what
are the risks? is it safer to just have
another c-section?

#1 yoiur fiance can not make yo have a
vaginal delivery if you dont want to, its
your body YOU are teh one who is going to
have to live with any consequences and the
one who will be doing the work
#2 it is sfaer to have another cseciton
but if its been more then a year its only
like a 1% chance or less i beleive that
anything negetive will happen from a vbac
#3 some doctors wont even offer to let you
vbac after a c section, theres too much
liability
#4 the biggest risk is uterin rupture, and
that is very slight risk (more risky if
you have had a c section in the last year
or so or if you have a vertical internal
incision)
good luck with whatever you decide and
remember its YOUR body

I have recently done a TON of research on
this topic.
It would first depend on why you
originally had to have a C-section. In my
state there is actually a law for
hospitals: once a C-section, always a
C-section, which makes it impossible to
deliver safely in any hospital for v-Bac.
I had 2 vaginal deliveries, a c-section on
my third due to placenta previa, a v-bac
at my doctor's office, and then another
C-section due to placenta previa. I am
going to shoot for a Vbac2c this time.
The reasons why I had the C-sections where
not because I was incapable of delivery,
since I had already proved that I could
easily have a regular delivery 2 times
before my first c-section.
Maybe you could give me a few more details
about your first delivery so I can help
you out a little more? What kind of
incision did you receive and why did you
have to have your C?
The risks of a c-section are more than a
vbac, or even a vbac2c....if you are able
to deliver vaginally, but that's hard to
tell if you've never done it before. The
biggest concern that I would have would be
vbac with induction which has a higher
percentage of uterine rupture. In the
case of uterine rupture, there is only a
.07 percent chance of rupture, and the
study was not specific as to who had had
successful previous deliveries and who was
induced. So it would be even less of a
chance of something going wrong for
instance for a person like me who was not
induce and had had successful deliveries
before.
With a C-section, there are many different
complications that could happen with any
surgery, plus extra strain put on your
uterus so that if you decided to have a
third child you could be at risk for many
things that you wouldn't have otherwise.
Not to mention the recovery time is a real
pain! And you don't want to have that
with a toddler in tow.
If you want more info, I can get it for
you, or if you have more specific
questions, I will be happy to answer them.

I had a elective csection with my daughter
and 13 mos later I had a VBAC with my son.
everything went fine, no complications,
altho im not sure which was more painful
lol. Some doctors dont allow it so you
would have to check with yours. Im
pregnant again and plan to have another
vaginal birth. One thing my doctor told me
was they wouldnt do an induction, if I
went past 41 weeks they would do another
csection.

well harmony was due nov 15 but she
wouldnt come, i got to 41 weeks they
induced me with cervadil and pitocin, she
still wouldnt come, i got to 4cm, they
gave me an epidural which halted my labor,
i started inching all over, and me and
harmony's heart rates both fell so they
decided to do a c-section, not up and down
but across.... i could feel them drawing
the incision line with a marker and at
that point they knocked me out..... plus i
was 5.2 and 102lbs, the baby was 8lbs,
9ounces, 22 inches long

I had almost the same situation. I went 8
days over and the pitocin didn't work. I
wasn't contracting or anything, so I ended
up with the section. I talked to my dr.
about a vbac and he said that since my
body didn't go into labor last time
chances are I will never go into labor
with the rest of my kids. Ava was 9 lb
baby. He said that we'll do this: if I go
into labor on my own around 37 weeks and
the baby is small enough, we could try a
vbac, but if not and this one is another
big one, heck no! There's too much of a
risk that the baby will be too big and I
won't go into labor.

c-sections while awake are AMAZING.. i was
awake with my daughter and asleep with my
son.. i wish i hadnt been asleep tho..
you dont feel anything.. they make sure of
it.. they give you an epidural, instead
of general anesthesia.. with general
anesthesia you can feel everything until
you go to sleep.. with the epi, ur numb
numb numb lol. (they were pinching my skin
with a thing that a really sharp end on it
and i couldn't feel it..)
The recovery is a lot faster if u get up
and walk around soon afterwards.

I'm on the fence whether I'd want to have
another csection with my next baby or if I
want to have a Vbac. I loved the fact that
I was awake during my csection though.

my VBAC was amazing other than the big
tear. its so different to get to feel your
baby pop out and see and hold them right
away without being flat on your back. i
didnt feel like macy n i bonded the way
liam n i did.

well the epiderul didnt work when I was in
labor with my daughter, because when they
were drawing the incision line I could
feel it, I didnt want to be put to sleep I
told the doctor before he put the mask
over my face " I might not wake up" he
said "yes you will" and thats all I
remember until this baby was lying next to
me and for awhile I doubted that she was
mine cause she looks nothing liike me, so
when her father made me get a paternity
test to prove he was her father, i was
relieved to kno that I was her mom, caca
there was no question who her father was
if she was mine... I was just paranoid, I
think I also was scared that she wasnt
mine because all the time i went to dr
apt.s and was in labor, nobody told me
that i was having a big baby

i do feel ripped off that i didn't have a
vaginal birth, but i am so scared of
trying for a vbac right now. i just feel
like it hasn't been that long (17 months
by the time she gets here) and i'm so
afraid of a uterine rupture or something
else going wrong. plus, i had such a
traumatic labor and birth with finn that
i'm looking forward to having a
stress-free delivery this time.
maybe i'll consider it with my next baby
which will be like 4 years down the road.

Are you able to try a VBAC after 2
c-sections?

I know I'm scared to death of something
going wrong & everything splitting
open inside of me or something. I feel
ripped off also, I wasn't even close to
being in labor when I had mine so I never
got to feel a single contraction or
anything, I wish I would have.

i don't know... i figured if it's far
enough down the road it might be ok.
mominashoe posted above that she had 2 vag
births, 1 c-sec, a vbac, 2nd c-sec, and
she's going for another vbac. so it must
be ok? or maybe it's because she didn't
have 2 in a row? i haven't really even
looked into it.
