Yes and no. Men are more visually drawn
to women than women are to men, I think.
But I believe women care more about their
OWN appearance than men do. Maybe because
we know we are being judged more by our
appearance. My dh calls this "getting
dolled up" (seriously, what decade is he
getting THAT from?) and always says he
doesn't care how I look, but in the same
breath he always comments on my physical
appearance (I like your butt, etc etc). I
don't think I ever comment on his physical
appearance, because I see completely past
it at this point.

I agree with what Sillya said. Women care
about their images because MEN care. It's
how our sexuality works. Women look good
so men will be attracted to them. We're a
little backwards in that sense, because in
most animals, the male is the one
competing for attention.

'Getting dolled up'-I hate that phrase.
To be honest, I don't think it's so much
to do with men. It is partly, so that men
will be attracted to them and all, but I
think the bigger reason is competition
from other women and to make an
impression. I'll make a special effort
when I'm going somewhere nice or meeting
someone I want to make a good impression
to, so they will remember me, regardless
of their gender. And I wear makeup because
every other girl does, and I feel like
it's some sort of competition between us
to look the best, and that's my main
reason. Maybe that's just me though.
To answer the question, yes, although men
are becoming more superficial now, what
with the special 'men' treatments at
beauty salons, and the increase in mens
cosmetic surgery etc. They still try to
make it manly though, by putting in big
macho font 'FOR MEN' on the front of the
face cream even though it's probs exactly
the same stuff inside.

I think they are both equal when it comes
to that.
Men are equally as judgmental as women
are.. more-so sometimes it seems. They'll
not date a girl because she was an extra
finger or her toes are uneven, whereas a
woman will look beyond that a lot of times
and try to see a man for who he is. I've
never heard of a guy doing that. At least
not personally. Maybe I just know a lot of
superficial men? lol
Men always have and always will FEEL
superior to women just because of how life
started out. "We were made first." or like
Homer said, 'Big fluffy shirts' and
pompous wigs.
I comment on Robs butt but thats
uncontrollable.. that boy has a NICE ass
lmao. But i mean we're married, and if he
DIDN'T have a nice ass i still would have
married him. He married me WITH my flaws,
as I married HIM with his.
All though I remember dating this guy Bart
when i was 19.. he was a jerk. He hugged
me one night and patted my tummy and goes,
"think you could start doing some crunches
for me? just a few its only a couple
pounds." Keep in mind i had just gained
the proverbial "Freshman 15" i just pet
his face and said, "Think you could start
taking a few steps towards the door and
get a life for me? K thanks."
UGH.
i DON'T miss that boy.

Unless they're not christian, in which
case neither gender was created first.
Maybe you've just been dating a lot of
conservative christian men? They certainly
feel like they're superior because of how
the bible has been misinterpreted for
thousands of years.

that guy was a SERIOUSLY devout
Christian.. his parents are traveling
evangelists that have churches in New York
and GUATEMALA. He wanted me to move down
there with him and his family and i was
like, NO. Hes a common crisp collar guitar
playing white boy. Never would have
guessed til you hear him open his mouth.

In the bible men and women were created at
the same time. You just gotta read the
right part.

Very true. There are like two different
versions of Genesis alone and they're both
mixed in with each other. It's all very
confusing and you can't rely on what
someone else has read.

In some circumstances yes, in others no.
In general terms women go for money and
men go for looks. The women want men that
can buy them things so that they can look
good for those men. On the other hand
it's uncommon for eighty year old women to
get with hot young guys but it's perfectly
normal and accepted for older men to trade
their aging partners in for "newer
models". That's not superficial?
I'm always seeing/hearing men put down
overweight women when they themselves have
a high amount of lard and really shouldn't
be pointing fingers. They have the
attitude that it's fine for them to let
themselves go but women must always be
sexy and in perfect condition...even when
giving birth. I see men complain about
being present for the birth of their
children because it's "unsexy" and they're
traumatized about seeing their playground
bloody and stretched.
If you look at most tv shows, you'll
commonly see unattractive or fat men with
thin, attractive wives. A lot of men who
are far from physically perfect themselves
expect to be able to have any woman they
want and put down women who aren't
physically perfect. It's an age-old
exercise in shallow double-standards and
yet a woman's love for fashionable shoes
is seen as more superficial than a man's
objectification of the female gender.
Personally I'll proudly be superficial
about my boots and standards of
cleanliness I expect of my husband. It's
better to be superficial about inanimate
clothing articles and body odor than to be
superficial about human beings and the way
they're made, especially if you expect
more out of your partner in looks and
fitness than you're willing to work for to
achieve yourself.

Put the aspects of womens' superficiality
(if that's a word) and mens'
superficiality and BANG: You have some of
the most terrible gay men I've ever met.
In all seriousness though, it all depends
on the situation. Many men think that
they're god's gift to the entire female
(or male) gender. The ones who treat their
twig and giggle berries like they're
sacred vegetation etc. etc.
Women can be superficial more about
appearance (though they can both
intertwine with each other, I suppose).
Anyways, there's no real point to this.. I
agree with most people on here.
