Worried About Discharge.. Posted: 12-28-07 12:45pm
I'm currently on Nuvaring and when I
switched birth controls, I only had slight
bleeding every now and then. I've had
unprotected sex with my partner many times
and we're both STD free. Lately, I have
been having a dark brown discharge to
light pink discharge, sometimes enough to
show up in a panty liner, sometimes only
when I wipe. This has been going on now
for two-three weeks. I don't have any
pain and it has no foul odor. I never
have any problems with headaches or back
pain, but I've had both now for a couple
days. I have been extremely irritable and
moody, emotional, having food cravings,
feeling sick and wanting to sleep all the
time! Should I be worried about pregnancy?
Is this a side effect of switching birth
controls? A lot of people say that you
can sometimes tell you're pregnant because
you "feel" like you are, and this week
I've really just felt that way. I've never
been pregnant before and I honestly do not
want a baby right now. I have no idea
what is going on!
Another note, I've heard on several
different occasions that women who have
lost dramatic amounts of weight in a short
period of time are more likely to become
pregnant. I'm one of those people due to
gastric bypass surgery, has anyone else
heard of this?

You said you are having a dark brown
discharge; this is probably just spotting
from your new birth control method. This
is completely normal. However, if you are
really worried you can take a test just to
ease your mind, but if you are on birth
control chances are highly unlikely that
you are pregnant.
