What is the best car seat option. We got one that goes up to 22 lbs. However for $10 more we can get one that goes up to 30 lbs. The problem with that is that is is about 5 lbs heavier. I want the lightest infant carrier/car seat possible but then again is it worth the extra lbs to be able to have my baby in the car seat longer? What difference is there between 22 and 30 lbs anyway? Are we talking like an extra year? A few extra months? Will my baby want to be in a reclining infant car seat position all the way to 30 lbs anyway? I have heard they will want a real car seat to sit up in long before they reach 30lbs. Is this true? aaaahhhhhhh What do you guys recommend?

Ava was in a rear racing infant seat that went up to 22 lbs. She's got to 22 lbs around 9 month and is now 25 lbs at 13 months. I don't see her getting to 30 anytime soon. We had her in a convertible car seat rear racing until she hit 1 year then we front faced her.
If I would know what I know now, I would have bought a convertible seat that she could fit in as an infant. That infant seat is kind of a waste of money, when you can buy a seat that you can use until your child is around 4.

I bought the infant one at 22 pounds knowing I would spend more money later.
The reasons:

1) I am a wimp and the 5 to 8 extra pounds would have just killed me.
2) The consumer ratings were so much better on the 22 pound brand that I got rather than the other one that went up to 30 pounds that I was thinking about getting.

It sucks but oh well!

i'd go with the 22-pound seat. i can't imagine lugging a 30-pound child around in an infant seat!
