Lack of a menstrual period (amenorrhea) and irregular menses cycles could be due to a decreased function of the endocrine axis of the hypothalamus-hypofisis-ovaries called hypogonadism. Hypogonadism prevents ovulation (egg-cell expulsion) from the ovaries. Menstrual cycles without ovulation, therefore, are prolonged, rare and irregular.

Hypogonadism can be caused by many reasons but given your young age (16), it is possible that early sexual development could be related to the difficulty. A woman does not ovulate right after her first menstruation (menarche) and the first menstrual cycles are irregular.

It is a fact that without ovulation, conception is impossible. You can consult a gynecologist to learn more and follow up on the state of your endocrine system but before that ... you can take a pregnancy test because pregnancy is the most common reason for amenorrhea.
