Cannot afford health Insurance Posted: 12-30-07 06:45am
I worked for the Cable Company for three
years, and on 2/14/07 I seriously injured
my back. I fell off a set of steps,
causing blunt force trauma to my back. I
slipped a couple of disks, and had surgery
on one. I filed a lawsuit against the
compensation company, and ended up
settling with them. The day the settlement
was final, I was permanently layed off
from the job. I lost my health insurance
also. I was going to a pain clinic for my
back, and they were prescribing me
hydrocodone. Now I cant afford to go to
any kind of clinic, or my wife, and kids.
What can I do?

hydrocodone is an addictive drug..you have
got to get off it.

It is the only medicine that works, I've
tried all the rest.

Why where you fired? Was it related to
the accident?

I was fired because I put in a law suit
against the workers compensation company.

nightangel, please post something helpful.
He is not asking for help on addiction
and therefor does not need to be told to
not take something that works for him.
I would look into state and government
insurance coverage. If you can not afford
it you will most likely qualify for that

That also seems an unjust reason for being
fired. Have you consulted a lawyer?

you could also go to the labor office(ii
forget what its proper name is) and report
it. that should not happen.

Have you seen Sicko, Michael Moore movie?
this is a typical USA case of medical
insurance problems

I have a lawyer working on it, but the
company I worked for, doesnt seem to care.
I am suffering so bad with herniated
disks, and can't afford to go get help. I
have applied for Government Help, but
unless you are a drug addict, and just
don't try. If you have worked, the
Government will not help you.

Hi, Farruggia.
Good to hear that you have a lawyer on it.
If your company is large, they will not
care much because you are a drop in the
bucket. Are there any unions associated
with your line of work?

No unions. I was a contracter.

I see. Your position as a contractor
might also make it difficult to get any
reimbursements because the company did not
have you on payroll and can pick and
choose contractors at will. It's their
prerogative.
Have you found any local clinics? What
city, state do you live in? Maybe I can
lend a hand at locating a community
clinic.
