Mri Results for severe lower lumbar spine pain Posted: 12-31-07 22:36pm
I had an MRI done back in May 2007...The
findings were: L4 incidental
uncovertebral body and hemangiomas. At
L4-5, minimal facet hypertrophy. At
L5-S1, there is slight retrolisthesis of
L5 on S1 with uncovered disc, annular
fissure, and small central bulge versus
minimal midline disc protrusion and slight
abutment of the thecal sac. Some mild
degenerative change at L5-S1. I also
re-injured that area a week after that MRI
but have had no x-rays or any other MRIs
since the accident. I have severe lower
lumbar spine pain, with pain radiating
down my right buttock to my big toe. I
was wondering what this all means. Thank
you, in advance.

Hello Ptense,
Welcome to this wonderful forum.
By all means make an appointment to see
your doctor. And if your doctor is not a
neurologist/spinal surgeon, then seek out
the best you can find. You do need to
have the advice of a spine specialist.
AND you need to make an appointment with
another spinal specialist. Second
opiniions are very important. Don't
delay.
I am not a doctor, but with that pain
going down your leg to your big toe, it is
possible that you may have a pinched nerve
in your spine, and that needs attention.
Be not concerned at this time about
surgery, for it is one step at a time.
For me it was receiving an epidural
injection from my pain management doctor
and PT. That has helped immensely for me.
I wish you the best. Stay in touch and
let us know how things go for you.
