swollen node and weakness after virus Posted: 01-01-08 17:28pm
Hi, I'm 18 years old and for about 2
months now I've had weakness in the arms
and legs that kinda comes and goes. Some
days It's not even there and other days
It's really bad. One day I had problems
getting the spoon from my bowl of cereal
to my mouth. Sence then it's gotten a lot
better but some days It's still very
bothersome.
I went to the ER and my doc and they ran a
TON of blood tests and all came back
normal. They think It's just a virus...
but how long do virus's last?
I recently noticed that on my left side of
the neck and I'f I put my hand there and
push in I feel a hard lump. It's almost in
the middle of the neck from the head to
the collar bone. Is this classified as a
swollen node and should it go away by
itself?
thanks in advance. Any info would be
greatly appreciated.

Yes, it seems that you've touched a
swollen LYMPH node. Lymph nodes are in
charge of producing lymph, which travels
throughout your body in the lymph system,
and filters impurities from the body. So,
they're working overtime when you're sick
to get you better. When swelling appears
suddenly and is painful, it is usually
caused by injury or an infection.
Lymph nodes do become painful to the
touch, and can become hard, but if they
don't return to their normal size after a
couple of week, you should contact your
physician. Lymph nodes are located all
over the body, but in the neck, there is a
chain of lymph nodes on either side of the
front of the neck, both sides of the neck,
and down each side of the back of the
neck.
