Fifty years ago my grandmother commited
suicide. sixteen months ago my kids sister
commited suicide. in the last year my
other sister has attempted suicide twice
and is now on heavy pscycotic drugs. I
myself have been in treatment for five
years and am not talking any
anti-depressants, however my older brother
is.
We are five children all over the age of
forty and all of us were physically and
mentally abused by my late mother who's
mental state was never examined. all of
think there was definately something wrong
with her and my father did not believe in
drugs or treatment
i have never been a really happy guy, and
my wife believes that all of us has
inherited depression. I did try prozac
once, but found it useless.
My question is therefore taking all the
above into consideration, are we all
suffering from inherited depression? and
if yes what can be done about it?
one last fact: all of us live in different
countries, and until my nephews suicide
were very close to each other. we are all
big readers and of normal intelligence.
all of like our space and in the majority
i would say that we are outwould going
people

PROZAC is only one of NUMEROUS medications
that help with depression.
YES, depression is inherited, it is
genetic.
I suffer from depression, and all of the
women on my mothers side of the family
suffer from depression.
I take 100mg of zoloft a day, and have for
13 years, since I was 13 years old. It
works for me very very well, and when I
stop medication I do not feel good at all.
I have stopped before just to see what
would happen.
You need to see a psychiatrist and see if
there is not something you can do for your
depression problems.

Yes depression can be inherited. Both
Anxiety and Depression run in my family.
If Prozac didn't help you, there are other
medications that you can try. However,
sometimes, it's your life situation and
stress that could be more the cause of
your depression more than your inherited
problem. In this case, anti-depressants
aren't going to work for you.
In my own situation, I have taken many
different kinds of medications, but none
have worked for me. Although I may have
an inherited depression, it is the
problems in my life that need to be fixed
more than anything, and no pill is going
to do that for me. The only thing it will
do is maybe make these problems easier to
handle, but in the end, solving the
problem, possible or impossible to solve,
is going to be what will "cure" you.
One note about "inherited depression": all
because others in the family may have it,
doesn't mean that you necessarily have it
of course, just like everyone in a family
can end up with brown eyes and you can end
up with blue. Even if you aren't the
lucky person that didn't end up with it,
there is no reason to think that the
depression related actions of different
family members should effect your own. Of
course you feel terrible when one of your
own family members commits suicide, but
you have power over your own actions,
depression or no, so don't let their
actions influence you or make you think
that you will end up the same as they did
because it "runs in the family."
