cutting back on drinking
Posted: 01-03-08 09:20am

hi
i have decided to cut back significantly on my drinking.
i drink 3 glasses of wine every night, on the weekends it's 4. i've been doing this for probably a little over a year or so.
i have decided that it is not good for me and i'd like to lose a little weight.
i may end up having 1 drink a night, with 2-3 on the weekends, but we'll see. I want to stop this habit before it gets worse.
the problem is that i'm scared that if i quit cold turkey that i will have withdrawals! i googled withdrawals and it said you could even have seizures! I suppose i could just gradually cut down to 1 drink, then go to none.

what do you think?

in my previous post i said i have 3 wines every night, sometimes it is 2 as well Smile but the majority of the time i have 1 beer and 2 glasses of wine.

anyway, i am also worried about depression. after googling it got me concerned because i have had depression once in the past(about 12 years ago after my mother's death).

so, if i cut back to drinking 0-1 drinks during the week and 2-3 on the weekends, do you think i'll have withdrawals like this? I know I can cut back and/or not drink at all, i just don't know if i'll have withdrawals!

(by the way, I have a touch of OCD, not the handwashing type, but the obsessive worry stuff, so of course, this is affecting my decision on the best way to stop...should i wean off or can i just not have a drink cold turkey Smile

it is usually better to slow your drinking down before quitting cold turkey. try having just one drink a night for a week or two. then try maybe skipping nights and so forth. if you find it is too hard to have only one drink, and you continue to have ur usual, you may need a little support from friends or family.

I was a bartender for 20 years and drank every day....hard liquor. I quit drinking 6 years ago and have had no withdrawel problems...of corse I quit slowly...good luck. A few glasses of wine a week are not bad for you.

reece,
Sure thing....don't worry about it too much. My doctor actually told me that a glass of red wine every night was good for you...but if you feel you need to quit all together then that is what i would do. Good luck to you. Very
Happy
