after-effects of minor stroke Posted: 01-06-08 15:28pm
My mother is only 47 years old and had a
minor stroke. I am 14 years old and am
very stressed out about her. She is doing
alright for the moment (no paralysis, eye
problems, memory difficulties, or speech
problems), but I am still very concerned.
At the time of the stroke, her cholesterol
level was actually very good, but after
the stroke, it went up a lot. Is this
normal? I am also concerned about if her
life expectancy will be altered at all. I
am scared for her.

Dont worry, sweetheart, she will most
likely be OK. I had a stroke at age 42 and
am now 48 and so far so good. I have short
term memory loss and cant read or spell
very well anymore but thankfully I had no
paralysis either so she is really very
lucky. Stroke comes in many different
forms and it sounds like hers wasn't too
bad. I was, at first, unable to recall my
pets names, my boss or neighbors and
couldn't read at all...I didn't know a T
from a G or anything and have recovered
considerably. She sounds like hers was
minor. Thank God for that. Does she have a
physical therapist or is she seeking any
kind of therapy now? If not then she is
probably going to be fine and you don't
have to worry about her passing away at an
early age. She needs to exercise and stay
away from fatty foods and watch her
cholesterol, mine also went sky
high...that is a good question and
hopefully you and I will get an answer on
why that is. Does any one out there know?
OK, good luck and do not worry.

No problem...your mom is lucky to have
such a caring daughter. Keep the faith and
if you need to talk to anyone then just
talk to me. I will help all I can to make
you not worry so much. Hopefully we will
get some responses after the weekend about
the cholesterol and any other concerns you
might have. If your Mom wants to talk she
can sent me a message threw this site.
Good luck to you both.
Peace and love,
Steve

I have short term memory loss also. I
think it will be OK. What I do is write
notes and leave them here and there. I
forget a thought almost as soon as I have
it so I write everything down that I don't
want to forget. As long as she does that,
remembers to turn off the water when she
is done with it, turn off the stove, etc,
then I would think she should be able to
live alone but really, she should write
reminders all over the place. Or maybe you
could write them for her, tape them up
here and there and put a little heart or
smiley face saying you love her and just
didn't want her to forget to turn off the
stove, etc...Keep me posted,OK? I hope
this helped.Peace and Love, HomerX
