Urge to Express Colostrum
Posted: 01-07-08 10:30am

I'm 25wks pregnant and I started producing colostrum at about 17-18wks. It only comes out when I squeeze it.

Every 2-3 days, it seems that theres a buildup or something because I get this extreme urge to express it. I'll do it about 10 times on each nipple and I'm fine. But lately it's been about every day, maybe stretching to every 2 days. Is this normal? I haven't asked my doctor yet about it because I didn't have the yearning to do so last time I went.

On one hand, I feel it's preparing me to breastfeed (which I plan on doing so), but I also heard stimulating your nipples brings on premature labor.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Personally it's not something i'd like to do, You don't need to prepare yourself for breastfeeding by doing this

i think it's in your head. you shouldn't feel the urge to express the colostrum and it's in no way preparing you to breastfeed.

you don't think rubbing them and making them tougher is helping?

I have a lot of things in my head, I just didn't think this was one of them...
