Well I read that its not good to continue
the depo shot for more than 2 years. I.ve
been on mines for 2 years. I.ve been
having heavy bleeding, painful cramping,
irritability, body aches and pain in my
joints and nausea. So I think its time to
find a safer form of birthcontrol. Anybody
have any suggestions? I even discussed
this wit my boyfriend and he just shrugged
and wasn't too supportive lol MEN.
I want a BC that makes me not get my
period but is 99% effective. Help!

Not get it at all? The Mirena IUD is very
very effective and is known to
reduce/eliminate some women's periods.
Nuvaring is also pretty effective
(slightly more so than the pill because
it's easier to use) and reduces periods.
No birth control really gets rid of your
period for sure, though. Some pills can be
taken long term and you can skip periods.

Seasonal makes you only have 4 a year and
is very safe.

That's sounds awesome, I.ll consider that.
My boyfriend is iffy about me going on the
pill (I guess he.s traumatised after what
happen to his baby mama lol) I discuss
this with him cause we.re a couple and if
something happened its our responcability.
But I.d rather get back on the pill cause
its safer.

His baby mama? Who is that and what
happened to her? The pill is one of the
safest prescriptions available!! It's very
unlikely to kill you or permanently damage
your or even cause debilitating side
effects. Don't smoke when taking it,
obviously.

That's fine, you can get Mirena removed
whenever you decide to have children.
It does hurt when they put it in, but not
so much I wouldn't recommend it. They put
you up in the stirrups, open you up (like
you normally experience with a regular
exam) and then use a special ruler to
reach in through your cervix and measure
your uterus. That hurts a bit. Then (if
your uterus is large enough, most women's
are) they use a special applicator to go
back in through your cervix and place the
IUD. The only part that hurts is that they
need to pry your cervix open a bit to do
it. And it hurts, but like I said, I'd do
it again if I thought Mirena was for me (I
had it before) I would suggest that you
take painkillers about a half an hour
before the procedure, and wear a
pantyliner because you might have some
spotting right after. Also, bring someone
to drive you home if you can, you will
probably be crampy and you might not feel
like moving much. You might be crampy and
experience some light bleeding after for a
while, but it's really not so bad.

His baby mama was supposedly taking her
pills on time...obviously she wasn't and
got pregnant. That's why I had said that
he.s iffy about me going on the pill lol.
But its my body and I'm gonna do what's
best for it. I'm going back on the pill
and he said a hint of fear in his voice
that its fine if I go back on it as long
as I'm sure to take them on time lol but
I'm definately going to go with seasonal

I have just noticed that when I was on my
pills I wasn't that heavy. I was about 145
my perfect weight! But when I started the
depo shot I went from 145 to 150-155lbs in
half a year. Now its my second year on
depo and I'm at 162lbs. So I'm deffinately
going back on the pill to lose that
weight. It just seems to me that pills
don't make me gain weight. I used to be on
orthro tri cyclyn and I didn't feel heavy
and I wasn't heavy at all
Anybody experianced consistent weight or
weight lose while on ortho tri cyclyn?

The reason that the doctor told you it's
unsafe to continue using Depo-provera for
a long period of time is because the FDA
has placed a "black-box" warning on the
drug, because it's been proven to
negatively affect bone density, thus
giving women who use it for an extended
period of time an increased chance of
acquiring Osteoporosis. My doctor said
that, two years is the FDA's fallback - so
that they can't be sued, just in case. She
believes the limit, essentially, is more
about four to five years.
It's not the symptoms your doctor is
warning you about. The only reason the
symptoms are so much more pronounced is
because it's a high dose of hormones all
at once, rather than a little bit every
day (like the pill, for example). Your
heightened symptoms aren't dangerous to
your health, though I'll admit they can
get very annoying.
Not that I'm trying to advertise for Depo
or anything, but I find it to be a very
safe form of birth control. The symptoms
are usually pretty bad in the beginning,
but mine have all but subsided. Sometimes,
it just takes time. Your body needs to get
used to all those hormones.
I guess it depends on the person, though.
Either way, good luck with your hunt.
