Doctor's Appointment Update.
Posted: 01-09-08 10:08am

Its been a while. But I had my second Dr. appt on monday (1-7). She said that I was about 12 weeks along. We got to hear the baby's heart beat which seemed completely amazing to DH and I. And I lost 12 pounds in 4 weeks. The doctor didnt seem to happy about it but she wasnt really mad about it either. Afterall, I have had morning sickness worse than anything in the world this whole pregnancy and have barely been able to eat or drink anything. I go back to the doctor on february 4th.

Hearing the heartbeat is amazing. I lost quite a bit of weight in the early weeks of my pregnancy too; I had morning sickness like mad! I gained it back plus some later on though!!

Hearing the heartbeat is AMAZING!!

Has she(your Dr.), maybe prescribed you any type of medicne for your sickness? It can't be healthy to lose 12lbs in a month.

My best friend lost 24lbs in the first 2 months and had to be hospitalized for severe dehydration 3 times. It was HORRIBLE!!

She had to stay on Phenergan(a med), and Anzimet her ENTIRE pregnancy for nausia. Her body did NOT tolerate EITHER of her pregnancies!

I hope you start feeling better SOON!!

Congrats!!

Yeah. I have had really bad morning sickness. The doctor actually said that she wants me to keep losing some weight at least for now because I am actually quite heavy though I have been told I dont look it. She said it would be bettere for me and baby if I were to keep losing weight. Of course I know that she wont want me to keep losing weight for long since it wont be good for the baby. But I think a lot of it is that I have basically cut out all caffeine which seems amazing because I was drinking tons of it.

I never lost weight at the start, but i didn't really gain much. Don't worry you'll gain the most at the end. As long as you eat healthy, and take care of yourself that's what matters.

I didn't lose any either. But then again, when I didn't eat/snack, is when I started to feel sick!

I actually lost 3.5lbs last week. So my weight loss started at the very end!!

I gained the majority from months 3-8!!! LOL!

She gave me a prescription for my morning sickness but it makes me really tired and usually within 45 minutes of taking it I pass out asleep. And every once in a while when I take it it actually makes the nausea worse. I still drink and eat as much as I can but alot of what I eat and drink ends up coming back up. I have stopped eating anything that is really unhealthy because then at least what I do manage to keep down is healthy stuff.

greasy foods can make you nausious as well.

Try eating cold fruits, and raw veggies(with ranch dressing), hell, even toast with peanut butter! LOL!

I never thought about the greasy food thing Sarah. Thanks for that little info. I dont usually eat to much greasy food but that would explain some of it.

This is dependant completely on the weight she starts out at. Like, someone who is low weight SHOULD NOT lose weight during pregnancy. However, someone who is overweight is advised NOT TO gain any weight at all.

The majority of pregnancy weight comes on towards the end of pregnancy, so she could very well gain back all she has lost plus some more.

i dont think its exactly HEALTHY for a doctor to tell a pregnant woman to LOSE weight and that its ok.. They would ask you to NOT GAIN.. but i dont see a doctor saying its ok to lose.

hm.

exactly what she told me was that 12 pounds in 4 weeks was a lot to lose but if I lost half that in the same amount of time it wouldnt be a bad thing.

Is it okay to lose weight during pregnancy?
Pregnancy is definitely not the time to go on a weight-loss diet: Restricting your food intake is potentially hazardous to you and your developing baby. But many plus-sized women do experience weight loss without dieting during pregnancy.

In the first trimester, it's common to lose weight as the result of morning sickness: The nausea can diminish your appetite, and the vomiting can cause you to lose calories. But don't worry, your baby your baby will still get all the calories he needs. Overweight women have an extra reserve of calories in stored fat, so as your baby grows, it's okay for you to maintain or even lose a little weight.
