Light period not ovulating ??
Posted: 01-09-08 12:47pm

My periods are always every 27 days without fail but they are so light. I only have to wear tampon for 2 days and it's really light and almost gone by the end of the second day. I've been using those expensive digital ovulation tests on the 11-14th day and getting a positive on the OV test. I wasn't getting any results with the cheap ov test with the pink lines. I have no idea if I'm ovulating or not?? I've heard that light periods could mean I'm not ovulating??? I am 29 years old and my hubby and I have been ttc since May 07 and we're not getting any younger! Does anyone else have this problem??? : (

You are ovulating. If the test came out positive saying you are ovulating, then you 99% are. Your have only been TTC 8 months; for most couples it can take up to a year. Once you hit a year of trying I would recommend seeing a specialist/doctor about it.

Thanks ladies. I guess I'll just wait a little while longer before I start getting really concerned...

If your periods are regular, I would assume you are ovulating. It is possible to have anovulatory bleeding, but that usually occurs when periods are highly irregular.

It also doesn't necessarily affect your chance of conceiving. I had super light periods once I stopped the pill (lighter than on the pill), only needed tampons one day (lite tampons at that) and then just pantyliners thereafter. I got pregnant on the 2nd cycle trying to conceive though I was taking a false unicorn root tincture at the time (I had read it could help with light periods & many swear by it for getting pregnant), but I don't know if it was the herbs or I'm just more fertile than I thought. There is a concern light periods can hinder implantation of a fertilized egg, but I wouldn't worry unless you have been having timed intercourse for a year and are still not pregnant.

Have you tried charting your basal body temps and tracking fertility signs? I'm sure the TTC board would have info on it. I had better luck with that than with ovulation tests.

I have tried to chart my basal temperatures and on fertilityfriend.com and that chart idicated that I was not ovulating...but I knew I was ovulating before because the digital tests were coming out positive but not every month. I may have anovulatory cycles like you said who knows? My husband and I also just learned from a semen analysis that he may have a low sperm count too so hopefully we can be blessed one day. I already have a child from a previous relationship so I think my body will come around but we'll see. Wish me luck!
