Persistent Folliculitis and taking Keflex Posted: 01-10-08 01:38am
Hello, I hope someone can help. Male,
White, 21 years old. About a year or so
ago i had a small bout with razor burn on
the right side of my neck where i shave.
Well this eventually persisted and over
the course of the past 12 months has
turned into a full-blown bout with
folliculitis. I talked to my doctor, she
told me to clean the area with
antibacterial soap and prescribed me
Keflex and to shave with a clean razor. I
also applied bacitracin to the affected
area daily.
Well after 14 days on Keflex and using the
soap with basically no results, the
folliculitis seems to be spreading. It is
now moving over to the other side of my
neck and infecting otherwise healthy hair
follicules. I don't know what else to do,
laser hair removal really won't help as
the infection seems to be spreading to
other hair follicules on my body.
It would get so bad that these ingrown
hairs would create red, pus-filled bumps
in which they would alter my appearance so
bad i would manually pluck out the ingrown
hair which SEEMED to help that specific
follicule. Well, I continued doing this as
needed while on the Keflex, using the
soap, etc. Was this a bad idea plucking
the hairs out? Was that basically
contradicting the antibiotics and
cleansing?
As a last resort, what I am doing is
discontinuing ALL shaving on my face, no
plucking, and starting on another 7 days
of Keflex and as always clean with
antibacterial soap and apply antibiotic
ointment.
What else can i do if this doesn't clear
the problem? Laser hair removal isnt an
option as the infection is spreading over
my neck and face.
