Pain When Arroused! Posted: 01-13-08 23:14pm
This has been going on for a year or
longer. When I become sexually arroused
(particularly if it's been a week or so
since I've had sexual intercourse), it
aches 'down there' very intensely...
usually lasts for only a few minutes and
then goes away. But seems like lately the
pain/ache is worse - even more intense
than usual, and I'm a little worried.
Could there be something very wrong with
me?
Again, this is NOT pain due to lack of
wettness/lubrication during sex. It's an
intense pain/ache that occurs during
arrousal.
Please, help?

Okay. I've never been in this forum and
trying to learn how all this works...
I posted this topic yesterday. Then,
thinking I'd posted it in the wrong
folder, I accidentally reposted the same
topic. Today I check to see if I've any
helpful replies, and the thread has
apparently been locked by a moderator
because of this double-post incident.
So hopfully I'll get some replies here.
And for the person who asked for a
situation in which this pain occurs:
Husband and I have foreplay. I get turned
on, during which time the pain occurs. We
start having sex, and after maybe a few
minutes into it, the aching fades and I
can enjoy myself without the discomfort.

Sorry you've been having trouble!
Are you on birth control at all? Is it
like, period crampy pain?
I feel that kind of pain if I'm turned on
AND not getting to orgasm.. .but only
after a while. That's strange. I guess I'd
mention it to the gyno next time you're
in.

No, I've been off the pill for 5 months
now. But this "arousal aching" was
occuring before stopping the pill, so I
don't think the two are connected.
I wouldn't describe it as crampy exactly.
It's like... an intensely aching tightness
that occurs in the vaginal region
(probably more on the left side) when I'm
turned on. I get really wet when it
happens. And again, it eventually fades.
It's just *really* unpleasant.
After searching I came up with the term
vasocongestion. I feel that's probably
what my problem is, in which case there
may be nothing I can do about it. I do
plan to discuss it with the doc at my next
visit. In the meantime, was just hoping
there might be someone in this forum who
has heard of this/ has the same problem.

She thinks that this arousal pain was
CAUSED by the pills, so it makes sense
that it started when you were still on the
pills.

Ah, okay. Well in that case she may very
well be right.
I've been on birth control
(orthotricyclene) for many years - since I
was around 15. Started the pill because I
was having irregular bleeding. This past
September, I stopped taking it because I'd
like to get pregnant.
I'm 25 now, and began having sex when I
was 17. It wasn't until a year ago (maybe
a little longer) that I noticed this
problem. It's just really strange.
Hopefully I'll be able to discuss it with
the doc soon.

On certain types of birth control I've
gotten cramps, like, where my ovaries are,
that worsen with arousal. That's why I was
wondering.
I would definitely mention it to the doc
next time you're in, just to rule out
anything like endo. Pain during sex can
have a few different causes, but this one
is kinda weird because it goes away? Maybe
pco's? I'm really reaching here. Either
way, mention it to the doc, but it's
probably not serious if it's been going on
for a while and you're fine otherwise.

I have period related cramps sometimes
too. But this that I'm talking about
isn't where my ovaries are... it's down
around my vaginal opening, on either side
(mostly to the left). An unpleasant,
aching tightness. That's how I'd best
describe it.
And it doesn't just happen during sex. If
I'm kissing, or watching something and get
really turned on, it happens. Even before
penetration. I know right? weird. And
yes, the bright side is that it goes away;
doesn't just last and last. Hopefully it
won't get any worse. We'll see what the
doc says next time I see him. Thanks for
the input, btw.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome I think- cysts
on your ovaries. If your pain was in your
vagina that doesn't seem likely
though....
