Cystitis keeps flaring up with antibiotics Posted: 01-14-08 09:20am
Hi all, I got a bout of cystitis last
Sunday night. I treated it with Cystopurin
and lots of water and cranberry juice but
made a doc appointment just in case. The
doctors appointment was on Wednesday and
by that time the cystitis seemed to be
nearly gone. He gave me a prescription
just in case it hadn't gone by Thursday
but said I wouldn't even need it. Then on
Wednesday evening it completely flared up
again and was really bad. I started taking
the antibiotics on Thursday and today is
the last day of the course but it's not
gone yet. In fact it keeps getting better
and worse - was bad on Thursday, bit
better on Friday, bad on Saturday, better
on Sunday, not too bad this morning but
then at lunchtime flared up again and now
I'm back in pain again!
Has this ever happened to anyone, that it
gets better and worse? Just worried that
it might be a symptom of something else
but not sure what that would be. Going to
ring my doctor this afternoon anyway and
tell him, but was wondering does anyone
else have similar experiences...?

had utis before, i feel your pain. when i
used to get them i would have certain
times when they would flare up during the
day, yes. well you are taking the
cystitis remedy and water and cranberry
juice so sounds like you are doing all you
can do really until the doctor prescribes
you any more antibiotics! my only advice
from experience would be this: if it's one
of those horrible ones where you feel the
need to go every 30 seconds but only a few
drops come out, then dont go. keep
drinking loads of water but only go when
your bladder feels full, not when you get
that burning feeling. cos for me, when i
went every 5 mins i was just irritating
the area more and more and making it more
raw. go when your bladder tells you to!

I know I'm a little late on this topic...
but I just wanted to point out that the
medicine you used is only effective at
relieving the symptoms of UTI's, and
doesn't contain antibiotics to get rid of
the infection. My best educated guess
would be that you waited too long to start
the course of antibiotics and allowed the
infection to become more severe so that
the antibiotics didn't take care of all of
it. Again, I know I'm a little late but I
hope everything turned out well.

I agree with run4life10 but I would also
suggest you check out Interstitial
Cystitis if you get this trouble
frequently.

If you get another infection try to not
drink cranberry juice. It may elevate
your symptoms.
