I know its long...bare with me please!

Ladies I am stumped here. I have the Mirena IUD which I have had for over 2 years now. About six months ago I experienced some pretty bad pain assosiated with it and ever since I have had spotting 2 times a month. I had rushed myself to the hospital 6 months ago when it all started because I had had some really bad bleeding. At the hospital they stated that they couldn't find anything wrong (they did ultrasounds, etc) they claimed my iud was in place and everything was fine just a little bit of inflammation. They classified it as PID. When I followed up with my physician 7 days later she said that she did not agree with them saying I had PID she claimed that after having iuds for some time that some women just begin to shed that lining at odd times even though they never have before, it sort of builds up. ( I stopped getting periods on it). I am currently on an antibiotic that claims to affect bc.

Well about 1 1/2 weeks ago I noticed my breasts were VERY tender and sore...they never get like this not even once a month like alot of women. I also noticed that I had a little spotting right before I noticed my breasts were sore then a week and a half went by and now I am having a little bloody discharge again (NOT much but its there). I am just really confused as to if I may be pregnant. I had unprotected sex on dec 22 and again on dec 29th. Is it possible that my iud is failing and that maybe they missed something at the hospital 6 months ago? Preforation? I also noticed when checking to see if the strings from my iud were still there that my cervix feels lower than normal (ive never really noticed it that low before). I have taken several hpt that come out negative but I can't think of any other explanation as to why the sore breasts. I am also having some constipation and headaches. Am I just getting neg hpts because I am testing too soon or what?! I am going insaine. I do see the doc tmw for a blood test, but I want to put my mind at ease tonite. Any advice anyone on what it could be??

im sorry i dont know, with a regular iud its possible but improbable and i dont think antibiotics would effect it bit with merina i dont know because thats an iuc if i remember right (intrauterine contraceptived, it has hormones released where as a traditional iud does not as far as i know)

good luck

Hi there!

IUD's are not affected by antibiotics.

Mirena *can* cause some painful cysts to form on some women, and that theoreically could be why you had so much pain.

IUD's can also sometimes cause pain, like a 'fluke' occurrence.

Only 20% of women lose their periods on Mirena, and most women do have some spotting every month.

all types of birth control are not 100% that's why if it's 99.9% affective, 1/1000 women could get pregnant while on it. So it could very well be that you are pregnant, and it could be to early to tell. Good luck on your blood test, I hope all goes well and they can understand what happened/is happening.

Just a shot in the dark, but your sore breasts could be from sleeping wrong or even over working chest muscles. I've slept on my breasts wrong for about a week straight until I finally got another pillow, then it was fine. Sore breasts is not a sure sign of pregnancy, and neither is constipation and headaches.

Again Good luck, I hope you get everything sorted out.
