Venting Your Emotions Can Help Depression Posted: 01-15-08 00:21am
From an early age we are taught that it is
bad to show our emotions-particularly the
negative ones like anger,sorrow,and
impatience etc.Yet they are part of us,and
need to be expressed otherwise they remain
in our subconscious mind and fester like a
wound.Eventually the negativity has to
emerge, and it shows itself as depression.
Some studies have confirmed this,or have
connected depression to anger in our
psyche.
So how can we 'empty out' this buried
emotion from the subconscious?Yoga has
been looking at this question for a long
time and has come up with some
solutions. If you look at osho.com on the
net,it outlines many 'meditation
techniques'-several of which are
cathartic(emotion-venting). Regular
practice of any of these techniques can
thus cut the roots of depression.I know
this because my son tried this and after 8
months of practice 4 times a week, has cut
his dosage of Effexor* by 60%.
It can also help depression to set
oneself some task or project in
life-especially one involving some
physical activity.Because the western
world has become relatively prosperous,we
have become bored and lacking in
purpose,so depression sets in.(in poor
countries,depression is rare because
people are not bored-they are too busy
trying to survive).
