Two questions and a mini-rant

1.) Is it safe to use sunscreen on Jays face? She's almost a month old. Is her skin to sensitive?

2.) How can I get my milk to dry up? Being engorged all the time is notfun.

Annnnd.

I keep the formula, bottles, and whisk in the cabinet right next to the microwave, so I don't have to run around the kitchen trying to get everything together when I make her bottles. And my mom moved the formula to the pantry in the laundry room ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HOUSE, the whisk to the silverware drawer on the bottom shelf (which I can't reach when I'm holding Jay because I have to bend over) and the bottles in the cabinet next to the fridge, on the other side of the kitchen. I asked her why, and she said because "that's where it all goes". I told her it's more convenient to have it all together, and she said she didn't care, that she didn't want the baby stuff in her kitchen.

Blah.

I moved it all back anyways. Don't tell her >.>

im not sure about her face, but i know sunscreen is ok to use on a baby, maybe try a wide brimmed hat if she will leave it on

wear a tight bra, and if your getting so engorged you cant stand it express a little by hand (you can even put this in jays bottle if you want, it couldnt hurt right) but dont do too much, you cant let your body think there is a demand for it, just enough to releive the pressure

about your mum, maybe try putting the stuff on jays dresser or in your room somewhere? then its out of HER kitchen and its all together, and maybe keep a bottle of water with it and refill the bottle when its empty so you dont have to run to the kitchen to do it

and how does the formula belong in the laundry room?

oh what do you use the whisk for? i just shake the bottles, i thought thats what most people did???

I'll do the hand express, but it would hurt to go in her bottle, she's lactose intolerant. That's why I'm not breastfeeding Sad

The kitchen is downstairs, my room is upstairs. That's more inconvenient than where she put the stuff now! Laughing I need the microwave to heat the water. And the laundry room pantry is where all our non-perishables go, so I guess that's why she figures it should go out there.

And shaking it makes waaaaay to many air bubbles. Jay's gassy enough without putting all that air in her stomach Laughing

I'm pretty sure my dr told me not to use sunscreen on Brayden until he was a few months old.. that was so long ago that I can't remember exactly!! And I know we were told not to put it on his hands and face when we did use it. I woud call your doctor and ask them. They can tell you exactly!

oh, sorry i didnt know that, how do you know that shes lactose intolerant? its very VERY rare in babies. i swear im not trying to be mean im just curious

oh, i guess the microwave thing didnt accure to me duh *smacks head* i dont and never did warm vals bottles, babies dont actualy NEED it warm so i never did it cause i didnt want her to get attached to it

it doesnt make that many air bubbles if you leave it alone for like 5 minutes after you shake it, thats what i do, trust me val gets horribly painful gas, ive learned a lot of little tricks over the last few monthes lol

Well, first my milk was making her sick. I tried changing my diet, but it didn't help at all, she'd still throw up after eating and scream almost all of the time. So I switched to formula, and it didn't help. SO we switched to soy formula, and now she's fine. So I'm assuming she's lactose intolerant. Maybe I am pampering Jay with warm formula, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to drink cold drinks when it's freezing already in the house. And letting a bottle stand for 5 minutes while Jayden screams for her food just seems stupid to me, especially late at night when I have a 5 year old sleeping in the room connected to mine. Much easier to use the whisk and get it to her within two minutes of her wanting it.

i doubt thats lactose intolerance, its probably a slight milk protein intolerance (more common in babies) val has that only a very very serious form of it, she cant even have soy, shes on a formula that has NO protein in it at all, its just amino acids

im not saying your pampering her, and i didnt say give it to her cold either, i give val room temp bottles, but you do what you want shes your child

again i never said you had to do it my way i was just telling you what i do because i was curious about the whisk, i dont find it stupid at all, val has to learn to wait either way, i would rather her wait 5 minutes to get her bottle then have her in pain later, please dont call it stupid i an not criticizing what you are doing dont criticize what im doing

again i never said you had to do any of that i was just giveing suggestions based on what i do because i dont know your situation

I'm sorry if I came of sounding criticizing, I really didn't mean to. I was just trying to explain why I do things the way I do. I didn't mean the stupid comment to come of sounding critizing either... I should have chosen a better word, but stupid was the first that came to mind and I'm too tired to dig in my vocabulary for a more accurate one. I just meant that waiting for the bubbles to settle is inconvenient because there are other children living in my house, and I need to get Jayden settled back down before I wake them up. It's quicker to get it whisked and the air pushed out of the bag, that's all I meant.

I am really sorry that I came off as criticizing, I never meant to. I'm sure your parenting strategies work great for you or you wouldn't recommended I try them... I was just trying to explain why they wouldn't work for me.

put cabbage leaves in your bra, trust me i havn't gone mad. My midwife reccommended it to me when i was engorged from my milk coming in, other than that you just have to grin and bare it. I'm dreading putting Mika onto bottles soon for so many reasons:
1. My boobs being engorged
2. Mika having formula, i hate that idea
3. The guilt
4. Sterilising bottles, i hate it
5. It's going to be so hard making the transition.

With the whole your mum thing i can't help you there because i'm a strong believer that if you are living with your parents when you have a child of your own you have to respect how they run their home and if your mum has the feeding stuff in a particular place then so be it IMO. Couldn't you just have it all in your room?

If you are really worried about the bubbles in the bottles, put some Mylicon in each one. It gets rid of the bubbles instantly and it's safe to use at every feeding. Just a suggestion...

You can use sunscreen on a baby and a hat is also a great idea.

I have heard that cabbabe leaves works too, so Dani hasn't gone mad. LOL Laughing

Maybe you could try making your bottles in advance and then there wouldn't be air in them.

No offense, but your mom sounds like a real piece of work. Don't worry, mine is too. I'm just glad I don't live with her. UCK

maybe you could get a bottle warmer or a small microwave for your room. Im not sure of the space you have but we got a bottle warmer from babies ru s for $20 and it heats in like 60 secs. it also had a cooler that you can put premade bottles in and they were good for 8 hrs. depends on the bottles you use tho cuz some didnt fit wed have to warm them in a cheap skinny bottle and pour it into liams bottle.

My mom noticed I moved everything back, and she didn't say anything. I think she moved everything just for the sake of being ornery Rolling Eyes

Danni - I've been using the cabbage leaves... I feel like a walking salad bar! But there's nothing I can do to actually make my body stop producing milk? And the transition wasn't too hard... I put 3 parts breast milk, 1 part formula in a bottle for a day, then the next day did half-and-half, etc.... but then again Jay is younger than Mika, so you might have a harder time. Good luck!

Dani - I didn't know they made those! I'll look into it... thanks!
