You can sleep on your back. Later in your pregnancy when the baby is large it isn't wise because of the blood flow.

Use a body pillow under your body and throw your leg over it. Smile

I sleep on my back (not on purpose though.. just happens naturally when I sleep). I sleep with a pillow between my legs and it mostly helps, or when my bf stays over, I cuddle up with him and stay on my side ALL night..dunno why though lol..anyways.. so far my baby is healthy... and i'm due in 2 weeks!

i slept on my back for ages until Mika started to crush me lol. If you're anything like me then you'll have to get up every hour to pee so you won't have much chance to move around!!

I was constantly rolling over and sleeping on my stomach.
I couldn't help it--it's how I slept before pregnancy.
When my belly was real big, I found myself STILL waking up on my stomach, though I was laying on the side of my stomach if that makes any sense.
I was always told that it is fine to sleep on your back until you are no longer comfortable.
It felt like sleeping with a watermelon on top of me.
A body pillow should work though. They are the extra long ones.

that's exactly how I am marianne. I even sometimes roll to my right side because staying in one position is just not me at all. Although my hubby says he'll wake up and I'm on my back, basically every night, I know I don't stay there long because I've never woken up on my back. But pillows are definitely a pregnant woman's best friend, that's why I stole two off my mom Very Happy, they were in the closest with about 20 on her bed, so I'm sure she won't miss them...

yeah, I do.. I don't mean to but I do.. I just wake up that way. It's the most comfortable way for me to sleep though since I used to HAVE to sleep on my stomach to sleep before I got pregnant and for the first 6 months (since I had no belly)

I slept on my belly till I was about 7 1/2 months. I couldn't help it...I even made a post about it.

Now I sleep on either side, with a pillow between my knees.

I absolutely cannot sleep on my back...it's either one side or the other!

You're body will move subconsciounsly and not allow your baby to be hurt by your sleeping position.

My hip used to hurt me too when I laid on one certain side!!!

I slept any way I wanted. I think it becomes more of an issue when you are closer to delivering.

I used to sleep on my side with a smaller pillow under my belly then a body pillow in between my legs. I slept on my belly until I started to get a bigger bump then it was no longer comfortable. I couldn't sleep on my back without getting extremely light-headed.

I asked my doc about it because I felt terribly guilty about sleeping on my stomach or back, but I was like the others. I would just wake up that way. She said your body will tell you if it isn't good by having parts of your body go to sleep or getting light headed. I had terrible terrible carpel tunnel and insomnia when I was pregnant, so any sleep I was getting was good sleep

The reason you're not supposed to sleep on your back is because your baby/uterus puts pressure on your Vena Cava, which is the major vein in your back the takes blood back to your heart.

It hurts you more than the baby (if at all) when you sleep on your back. There is nothing pushing down on your baby, your baby is pushing down on you. That's why leg cramps are so common in pregnancy, stupid blood flow is messed up due to pressure.
