Posted: 01-17-08 11:37am

i craige here.
im 33 male and have type 1 diabeties for 7 years now.
13 months ago i noteced my gums had swolen up a little, so i went to the docs, and she said i had gigervitus, and gave me some tablets, call metro? something." the one you musnt not drink alco with".
anyway, i took all the course, and my gums didnt get better, so i went to my densist.
and he said i had peridontitis, and id to keep brushing and it will go.
12 weeks later and it stll havent got better.
any way 13 months on and it still havent gone.
will it ever go?.

ive lost half my gums, and im starting to effect my speech. i have been going to the dentist every 12 weeks, and he seems to think it will go, but i dont believe him because there is holes starting to show,on my gumline, like where the roots are. Crying
or Very sad .
is they anything i can do, my dentist said he would do a deep clean, but will this be enuf?.
thanks very worried man,

You should use a mouth wash such as listerene--brushing is not always enought to get below the gumline where a lot of bacteria "hides out" a deep cleaning will definately help but you need to keep it up and take really good care to keep it clean. it may take a while to go away

because your diabetic condition you should go to a periodontist periodontitis is a disease that has to be treated by root planning an curretage , and improving your oral care ,flossing every day ,brushing after meals ,and using prescription products like peridex and metronidazole ...the thing is that to control the disease you have to do all of this using just antibiotics without the root planning and everything else is a waste of time and money. by the way Listerine does not help in the cure of periodontitis.....

periodontitis in diabetic patients is worse than in non diabetic and if you dont receive treatment it could have serious consequences on your health

of course deep cleanings work that is the same thing I was telling you, the correct term is root planning and curetteage . Read the following article about dry mouth and diabetes it will help you http://w ww.diabeteshealth.com/read/2006/12/01/4933 .html

You can also use a mouthwash and toothpaste called "spry". It has xylitol and no added sugar in it. It prevents everything regular toothpaste does and also helps with dry mouth symptoms.
