Phimosis requiring circumcision
Posted: 01-17-08 22:08pm

Hi, first post.

I'm in my early 20s, uncircumcised and have phimosis (tight, non-retractable foreskin). I've only been aware of this for a few months and it hasn't caused me any major problems in terms of sexual encounters but I am concerned because I know phimosis can become problematic if left alone. It isn't painful or anything but I will probably require a circumcision. I've heard of a possible steroid cream remedy but it might not work in my case because my foreskin has never been retractable.

Any advice on what to expect? What should be done to best aid the healing process afterwards? Also, granted I'm fully willing to go ahead with this, would most doctors refer you for a circumcision without hesitation? I want to get it over and done with as soon as possible once I arrange to see the doctor.

Thanks in advance to any replies.

PS: Sorry if put in the wrong forum.

From what I have heard, most doctors do suggest circumcision because it is the easiest and fastest cure, and because the stretching methods to cure phimosis are considered "alternative medicine". However I've heard of many men on this forum who have successfully cured rather severe phimosis this way.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know the stretching methods were dismissed by doctors like that. I should add that I'm from Ireland so circumcision is much less common here and doctors may not be in favour of it as much. I have no problem getting circumcised. I think women probably prefer the look of it and it might allow me to perform better sexually. In the past I've had some minor problems involving reaching orgasm due to the lack of sensitivity.

but if you use the stretching methods and they are successful then your foreskin will retract once erect so lack of sensitivity wouldnt be a problem anymore.

i'm from ireland too, i think circumcision should only be a last resort. i am female and i personally think uncut is better. so if you choose to have it done, do it for yourself, not cos of what you think women will like.

Personally I like uncirced penises. They make sex much more pleasurable for the woman. Plus, it's how your body is supposed to be, period. I'm fervently against female circumcision, and realised that male circumcision is just as horrific.

Male circumcision isn't horrific compared to female circumcision which can result in bleeding to death. I honestly feel as though I would be better off getting it done. I want to be comfortable with the appearance of my body. In regards to sexual performance, yes there is an argument that an uncircumcised penis is more stimulating (the foreskin acts like a ribbed condom to a degree) but I've never been able to retract so this is irrelevant to me. Sex is a lot more than just penetration as well. Half the pleasure is sensual. Thanks for the replies anyway. I've been through the pros and cons many times and think I'm making the best decision for me.

Incidentally, circumcision seems to have become a political issue over whether or not it's invasive to circumcise a child who has no say in the matter. I'm not in favour of infant circumcision but in my case it is to fix a medical condition.
