Sunday January 6 I woke up and just felt weird. I had some spotting, and hadn’t felt the baby move at all. I called the hospital, and went right up. They put me on the fetal heart monitor and that’s when we realized I was having slight contractions. They were around 6 minutes apart. This shocked the hell out of me because they were completely painless. As time progressed, the contractions tapered off, but the bleeding increased. They decided to admit me for observation. I still was experiencing no movement, but the FHRM was detecting a heart beat so it wasn’t a worry to them. The next day rolls around bleeding decreases, contractions start, but are irregular. Still no movement. The DR sends me home, and has a ultrasound booked for the next day, to see what’s going on with babe.
So I show up for my ultrasound…(the test was called a bi physical profile) his heart was good a strong, but she couldn’t pick up any movement either, and this was a worry because this test is used to detect the smallest little twinge that the baby makes. She calls the DR and says you have to get this baby out.
Anyways I am totally freaking out by this time, as I over heard them say C-section. I was told, go home pack your bag, do not eat , do not drink, and get back here ASAP. I was balling my eyes out so bad, I could barely drive.
I get home pack up stuff, cry my eyes out to my husband, and do what they tell us, and get back there ASAP.
When we get there, they decide to see if they can coerce my body into labor first. They check my cervix and I am about 1.5 cm dilated anyway so they go ahead and break my water. WELL………….things got a little uncomfortable, but not like it was with my first. Contractions immediately started at about 2.5 mins, then about 1.5 minutes. This was at 6:45 pm. Anyways at around 8pm, I got the “I need to caca sensation” The nurse checked me and said, OMG your ready, she called the DR, and she checked me, only to be disappointed to find out I was only around 7-8. She said it won’t be long, this is happening fast. The next hour was a blurr. I puked through almost every contraction they were that strong. As gross at this sounds…..the throwing up actually brought a little relief to the contractions. About 9:10 pm, I said to her…I am feeling lots of pressure, then all of a sudden my body did this weird thing and I said….” He’s coming, I can feel the burn” She didn’t think so, but I knew that feeling all too well, she picked up the sheet and looked down and his head was already coming, and I wasn’t even pushing. About 5 minutes later out he comes, his umbilical cord is completely wrapped around his body. ( That’s why he wasn’t moving) thank god it wasn’t around his throat.
He was assessed at 36 weeks. The Dr had my dates wrong. They thought I was around 37.5 at the time of induction.
The placenta is delivered and there are calcium deposits all through it and weird cysty things. The Dr said the placenta was in really rough shape, and had he stayed in there for the full 40 weeks, he may not have made it. She referred to it as over cooked, and it wouldn’t not have sustained him much longer. This is were the bleeding was coming from.
BUT where he was so early we had to be shipped to a bigger hospital with a neonatal intensive care unit.
His breathing was a little shaky, and he developed pneumonia in his right lung, so he had to stay a week, and be put on antibiotics. It was the worst week of my life, but he’s home now, and everyone is happy.
My life is now fulfilled, and I don't think we will be having anymore babies!!!
