seizures after head trauma Posted: 01-19-08 15:52pm
Hi, my fiance was in a snowboarding
accident this past Sunday and recieved a
pretty bad head injury. He had his first
seizure about 9 hours after the head
trauma, the second in the ER about an hour
later. The doctors prescribed dilantin
and told him he would be fine. Two days
later he had two more seizures and we were
back in the hospital. They said his level
of dilantin weren't at a high enough level
yet and kept him two more nights. While
there he had another seizure then we were
released the next day after briefly
talking with the neurologist. We are
still waiting for the EEG results, but the
neurologist basically said he probably has
developed some form of epilepsy. Last
night was the first night home and he
didn't have a seizure so we are keeping
our fingers crossed.
My question is, has anyone experience
something similar and has it been long
term? I have been reading online that
most cases of post traumatic epilepsy
eventually goes away, but our neurologist
is not very helpful and wouldn't schedule
a follow up to read the EEG for 3 weeks!
If anyone has any experience or insight
please let us know.
Thank you

I had a car accident within 5 hours
afterwards I was sleeping and went into a
grandmal seizure... I have had them ever
since in my sleep... They have gotten
better in yrs that have came and I have
been off meds now for a year now and only
one seizure that was induced by someone
hitting me in the head... As for the EEG
results nothing showed up on them except
for a major concussion..
