Well I suspect that there has always been a pro-life vs pro-choice movement they just weren't recognised as such - after all for as long as humans have existed so have unwanted pregnancies & abortions (legal or backyard) so I don't think it matters what country you're from, what religion (or non-religion!!) or whether you're married, single or de-facto or what.
