insurance after malignant tumor Posted: 01-20-08 23:39pm
Hi,
I am 38 years old and 9 years ago I had my
kidney removed with a stage 1 malignant
tumor (no lymph nodes involved). The
procedure was successful and subsequent
tests and CT scans have shown negative
results - 100% bill of health. I have no
other medical conditions and I have an
extremely healthy lifestyle.
I am on COBRA and recently became
self-employed. I am currently applying for
individual health insurance. One of the
major carriers said that they would cover
me but only at the highest tier - 300%
higher than the published rate for someone
healthy at my age.
Will it be possible for me to find
insurance and not be charged the highest
tier? How will my case be viewed after 10
years? Will my cancer surgery still be a
factor in my underwriting?
