He went into the hospital because of severe dehydration, weight loss, and diarrhea. It took a week to get him out of the hospital but even then he wasn't very stable. We had to give him constant care, 4 hour feedings, fluid under skin, medicine 10x a day...but now they know what it is! He has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. That is when the pancreas doesn't produce enough digestive enzymes. He couldn't digest his food so he didn't get nutrients and kept getting dehydrated from getting sick so often. Now he's stable, gaining weight, and on medicine two times a day and a special diet (both of which he will most likely have to have for life).

Thanks! Do they know what is wrong with her yet? If not, I would recommend asking them to check for that because they said its much more common in dogs than cats so maybe its something she has.

Update on Roxy
Posted: 05-09-08 21:13pm

Seems to me something going around affecting our pets.

The doctor said she had and bacteria infection that caused the diarrhea. She been kept over night to be administered fluids through and iv. I'm glad it's nothing serious. I can pick her up in the morning. yay yes because I really miss her.

Thank you all for your prayers. I really do appreciate it.

On the flipside, I'm soo worried about how much my bill will be. My fiance and I are trying to move within 2 weeks and it may jus wipe out our savings. Crying
or Very sad I had to put $100 emergency deposit it down and I sure do hope that goes towards the bill. I've just never had and emergency with her so Idk what to expect.

I'm not sure about prices where you live (I'm assuming they're more expensive here because everything is more expensive in the city, ugh) but Taco's stay in the hospital was 3,000. This was for 7 days, so it works out to one night being about 425 dollars. However, this also included tons of blood work ontop of the fulids and medicine, so if your baby got no blood work it will prob be even less. I'm so glad to hear her infection is getting better and she will come home tomorrow!!! I hope it doesn't break the bank. If you need help there are actually certain credit companies that are made specifically for vet purposes. I can send you the info on it; let me know.

I am so sorry homer, that is terrible. I feel so bad for you, when i read that, i actually started crying a little bit Sad at least now she is out of her pain and in a better place. At least you have the other puppies to keep you company and get your mind off it a little bit.

I will keep you and the rest of the little ones in my prayers and thoughts, if you ever need to talk just pm me, i know how hard it is to lose pets and sometimes talking helps.

thank you...my friend Mson from another thread let me to a website that had this poem that I shared with them but I want to share here as well..

Creation
When God had made the earth and sky,
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds, and bees
and when at last He'd finished
not one was quite the same.
He said I'll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name.
And so He traveled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until it's strength was spent.
When all were named upon the Earth
and in the Sky and Sea,
the little creature said, "Dear Lord,
there's no name left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
and called you DOG, my friend".

Thank You for your kind and comforting words,my friends..
