Swollen Lymph nodes in neck and groin
Posted: 01-21-08 13:19pm

It's been one year since my lymph nodes started "acting up". I have several painless lumps in my neck and groin that seem to fluctuate in size but are always there. I've had many blood tests, chest X-rays and CT scans but nothing shows up, my doctor now has me doing 3 urine tests but I don't see what that'll do. They don't hurt and they are of a very rubbery consistency. I'm experiencing no other symptoms of Lymphoma or any other type of cancer but I'm confused of what this could be. I'm only 19 and it's becoming an utter pain to run back and forth to the doctor for no result what so ever.

My parents keep saying it has something to do with my allergies but I don't see why it would...

What's the size of your "swollen" neck and groin lymph nodes?
Do they disappear or go down significantly over time and then act up again?
What kind of allergies you have?

Hmm...

My doctor hasn't really measured them but from what I can tell they are around 1-2 centimeters. They do go down over time, and tend to harden and soften every other day. I have pretty severe dust allergies and I'm lactose intolerant, there may be some other things I'm allergic to but we haven't done testing in awhile.

I've also noticed some sensitivity to low frequency sounds, not sure if it's correlated but it happens once in awhile.

When it comes to lymph nodes and glands, I would say get a 2nd opinion. Not sure of your circumstances, talk to your parents and ask them to find you another Dr. If it were me, or my daughter and we had the same persistant problems you seem to be having yet your physican can not find anything......I would be seeking another Dr opinion in a minute. This is not something that will just go away. If it is allergy related, hten you need ot be seem by an allergy specialist to get tp the root of the problem! Its your life and your body.....take care of yourself Cool

Thank you for your input Fairy, I'm thinking of going for a second opinion in the coming weeks.

CT+Chest X-ray?
Posted: 01-22-08 13:25pm

If it was Lymphoma it would show up in the CT and/or chest x-ray, right?
Blood tests too? ( I've had multiple blood tests, and my doctor says everything is normal, he did however say my blood sugar levels were a tad high)

Hi

Your white blood count would be off I believe thats how it wroks....don't quote me, but if you had lymphoma, you would not be here witing and asking...please please son, go for a second opinion. CT scans and Chest xrays, MRIS, and bloodwork would tell you if something were terribly wrong. What gets me is this doctor you have been going to time and time again yet, he can't seem to pinpoint the problem...time for someone else to look! Keep in touch!

Allergic reactions can be a cause for swollen lymph nodes same as bacteria and viruses.
Also, children and young adult tend to have a more active lymphatic system, so their glands may feel enlarged.
Abnormal size of lymph nodes are size bigger than 1 cm for neck lymph nodes and size bigger than 1.5 cm for groin lymph nodes, but, still some doctors accept the range 1-2 cm like normal.

Do you suffer from arthritis, thyroid gland disorders or metabolic disease?

Not that I know of.
Do you think it's just an over active lymphatic system?

What I think?

I think a certified physican who specializes in that field could determine this. Thats another reason for going for a second opinion and to a specailist.

It could be just an over active lymphatic system, but, to be sure you'll need to be examined by a specialist.
Have you asked for a second opinion already?
What kind of information you got?
